Every Day Could Be a Holiday as a Travel Videographer

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Thomas Reissmann, a travel videographer from Germany, who now lives in Sydney, has made his motto of making every day a holiday a reality, and he now wants to train other people to help him film holidays.

“Demand for online video from tourism companies is growing, as businesses are realising the enormous potential of using viral video marketing to increase sales, and I would really like to find more people who can help me film holidays around Australia, New Zealand and overseas,” Thomas says.

Thomas Reissmann has been a travel videographer for three years and has filmed adventure and trekking holidays, safaris, ballooning, camping, eco-tourism, sailing and resorts - in Europe, Africa and Australia. His videos can be viewed at www.authenticholidayfilms.com

Mr Reissmann also holds a degree in tourism and worked in the industry for many years. He began shooting online video three years ago while working for Responsibletravel.com in Brighton, England. Since moving to Australia he has been a full-time videographer for 18 months, filming in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.

He now wants to share his knowledge with others so as to be able to send people on filming trips and have them create promotional videos under his company name. He has written a manual teaching people about everything that is involved in the job, including tourism marketing, creating effective promotional videos, filming, editing, post production and selling to tourism companies.

“All that people need initially is a decent camcorder, a tripod and an external microphone. Then they can go out and film a couple of trips or accommodations in exchange for free holidays. Once they have a couple of sample videos they can go start filming for pay. They may chose to do the editing as well, but they may also send the footage off to Authentic Holiday Films for post-production,” Thomas explains.

The concept may have great appeal for budding filmmakers, hobby videographer and tourism as well as film students, wishing to combine a passion for travel with filming and making a living.

“I have always believed that we create our own reality and I really wanted to make every day a holiday. Now I feel that I have achieved that. I get to go to beautiful places and they pay me to go on holidays that others have to pay for, while I do what I love to do, which is to film of course. Even the editing is a very enjoyable and creative process and when I have enough I just go out for a surf. That’s the beauty of being a freelancer.”
