Inkscape

Quick and Fast: A viable option to Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw. Very nice shape manipulation tools!

Where to get it: http://www.inkscape.org/ There is a “Download Now!” button at the top right of the page. Available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac OS X and Linux.

Inkscape is pretty slick! You can make good drawings in SVG format, which you can then import into Scribus for posters or other layout projects. I like how easy it is to move, scale, rotate and skew just by clicking on a shape. The most fun shape is the star/polygon. Check it out!

Inkscape can be put together with GIMP and Scribus to have your own Adobe-like design suite: GIMP as Photoshop, Inkscape as Illustrator and Scribus as InDesign.

Tutorials, Documentation, etc. can be found on the website. There are links in the left sidebar. And there’s an Inkscape book that looks promising. Go to http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/
