Pinnacle VideoSpin

Quick and Fast: A free, basic version of Pinnacle Studio, much like Windows Movie Maker. Requires at least 512 MB of RAM!

Where to get it: www.videospin.com Windows Only! (XP and Vista) Free 15 day trial of certain formats including MPEG-2. A graphics card is also recommended.

As I mentioned in the Quick and Fast section, VideoSpin requires 512 MB of RAM, so I was not able to use it on my laptop! I have used VideoSpin before for a few minutes, though. It’s Pinnacle Studio with only one video track. The program works a lot like Windows Movie Maker: it freezes up and has trouble rendering (this is also the way Pinnacle Studio itself works). VideoSpin cannot capture video from your camera, so you’ll have to get it into your computer and then import.

VideoSpin also has a titles/credits track, a music track and a sound effects track along with the video/audio track, so it’s a little more advanced then Movie Maker.

I highly recommend the VideoSpin review in Videomaker(by Edward B. Driscoll Jr., “Automatic for the Rookies”, May 2008). The review is well done and sums up the program exactly.
