unknown_films_videography_green-copy.jpgHave you ever noticed how much stuff you waste around the office?

I noticed there are a few ways that help us save the environment as well as little cash too. At home my wife and I have always tried to recycle on a regular basis, in fact now she has bought separate canisters to divide all the trash up, making it a lot less time consuming when taking it to the center. This led me to feel like we should be doing this at the office too, I mean why not!

I noticed there a a few supplies we, and I’m sure other videographers, run through like water. For example discs, how many discs do you go through when doing a project? It can be a lot for us. I started asking everyone to use rewritable discs when burning a project for in house review instead of throwing away multiple discs just for testing. I know that not only saves waste but also money. We also try to save paper as much as possible by sending contracts, receipts, and bills electronically and always accepting electronic forms when others offer the same. It saves valuable space on my desk too!!!!:) Maybe some tapes can be reused two or even three times depending on the shoot. If we are just trying to test a type of shot for a future project, sure we’ll record over a tape we don’t need anymore, the money there can add up for sure! Ink cartidges run out too, and although I’m not a big fan of having them refilled with generic brands, we do take the old cartridges to places like Kinkos and PetSmart that accept them and use them for a good cause. I’m sure there are plenty of other great ideas and I’d love to hear them if anyone has one.

We try to promote “Green” type projects too. We currently offer 10% off for weddings that are considered environmentally friendly. Unknown Films  has footage of a green wedding we filmed that was featured on the news station KOLR10 in May. The story can be seen on our youtube channel at http://youtube.com/watch?v=ONNrvKny7Xk It seems like these ideas and more could make a larger impact on the world and your community.

I like our company playing a bigger part in not just videomaking but also helping effect the world around us in a positive way. Without a thriving world community the company would never exist. Thanks to everyone that helps! -Nathan Maulorico

Nathan Maulorico of Unknown Films and Derek McGuire won the 2008 Skills USA Missouri competition in April, 2008. The contest consisted of creating a video from scratch with no preparation about what the video is required to be about. Each team has only three timed hours to create the video. Within that three hours story boarding, scripting, creative thinking, shooting, editing, and exporting must all be completed. This years requirements were to create a news broadcast style video, up to 90 seconds long, that contained no music or sound effects.
“This particular video contest was very hard, not only due to the extremely short amount of time alloted, but the subject matter as well with no musical audio to rely on to “smooth” out the piece. I really enjoy the challenge though, as we have many clients who want quality as well as speed, and these types of contests help improve those skills” -Nathan Maulorico
With the win of the Missouri gold medal, Nathan and Derek will now be competing for the National title in June

Felicite.com, the premier online gift registry network, announced the winners of it’s “Best Wedding Video” contest for professional videographers. Felicite awarded Unknown Films for the three minute version of the wedding film “Lle Nozze a Roma (A Wedding in Rome)”.

-VP Marketing Peter DiSalvo says “We were very excited by the quality of the video submissions we had for our contest. We timed it to coincide with the launch of our latest registry feature which allows registrants to post their own videos of their event on their Felicite registry. We receive a lot of inquiries from registrants with questions about their wedding; we hope these videos demonstrate just how great a wedding video can be. We’re very happy to promote these videographers.”

Unknown Films owner Nathan Maulorico - ” I couldn’t be happier to win! I feel that something so important to a client, such as a wedding film, should be made with the best available quality. So many times we hear of people upset with what they received in their wedding video from other videographers. We have set out to change the way people think about what a wedding video is by showing them what a wedding film should be. Quality, creativity, and pure talent is key. I’m also very exited that the winning film is my own personal wedding, it means a lot to me that my wife and I will have this memory to watch forever.”

We decided that with the announcement of this new award we would finally launch our long awaited iTunes PodCast. Since we have entered the blogging world we feel it was only appropriate to also have a podcast to showcase what we’re doing in a high definition video format. Please visit our new podcast in iTunes and watch our first episode “Lle Nozze a Roma” by opening the iTunes Store and searching “Unknown Films HD”, or by clicking here.  New videos will be posted as they come in. Thank you everyone and we all hope you enjoy!

Unknown Films wins VICA Skills USA Regionals for the Springfield Cape Girardeau Southern Misssouri area! Nathan Maulorico competed with a teammate in the competition on February 8th. The contest consisted of creating a 30 second video with no preparation in only two and a half hours. Winning this region qualifies the team to compete is the Missouri state wide competition on April 3rd and 4th. This is the second regional gold medal won by Nathan Maulorico in the VICA competition. Last years state wide competition turned out to be an upset for us as although Nathan had won first place he was deducted points because his randomly chosen partner did not show up for the contest. His points were cut by 50% which caused him to then place third. We will keep you posted with the outcome of this years competition.

Welcome to UnknownFilms.com VideoMaker Blog. We first discovered the Videomaker site about two days ago and we were fascinated by all the great info it has, so we prompty joined! We hope to meet some new contacts in the industry as well as make new friends. Since this is our first Videomaker blog entry here is a little about us…

Unknown Films creates video media productions for all sorts  of things, we like to think with dreams and make them a reality.  We hold true our motto of  ”Be the Change” because being the change is about making things better, not just being different. Our main website can be found at www.unknownfilms.com. A few people in Springfield, MO (where we’re based) were asking us if we had a blog somewhere for them to read, and again we were asked during our latest trip to New Orleans. We unfortunatly had to tell them no. With that said we felt it was time to enter the blogging world! So here we are, what now? Well, we plan on posting updates on new cool projects were working, upcoming Unknown Films happenings, as well as pictures and videos from our travels. This past year we traveled to places like Italy, Mexico, and Poland. In 2008 we already have over a dozen US cities with planned visits, with more in the works as well as some Europe visits too! 2008 is going to be a great year for us. Some things to look forward to in 2008 are the long awaited final completion of unknownfilms.com parts two though five, some great television commercials planned for our clientele, of course this Blog, and even a Top Secret Project that will be a lot of fun for us and you! As you read our new blogs feel free to contact us about any questions or comments you might have along the way, email us or even chat online with us at AIM: unknownfilms13. Thanks to everyone and we’ll be posting our next blog very soon.
