Blackmagic Design today announced a new lower price on its popular Studio Videohub 3 Gb/s SDI router with 16 x 32 SDI routing, 16 x 16 RS-422 deck control, full SDI re-clocking all in a compact design less than 1 inch thick.
Studio Videohub is perfect for small post production workgroups where people need to share a broadcast deck as well as system integrators who are building custom video facilities. Initially previewed at NAB for $3,199, Panasonic’s professional AG-HMC40 AVCCAM handheld camcorder will begin to ship in August at a significantly lower price, widening its appeal to a much larger customer base, the company announced today. Panasonic also announced that shipments of the new HMC40 camcorder will come initially (from August 2009 through March 2010) bundled with free EDIUS Neo 2 video editing software (Retail Value: $199).
Compact and lightweight at 2.16-pounds, the HMC40 is a versatile HD camcorder with high-quality AVCHD recordings, high-resolution still photo capture, and professional audio capabilities for a wide range of applications and markets including schools, government agencies, event videographers, web designers and more.
The HMC40 will be available at the end of August, with the free Edius Neo 2 non-linear editing software package (for Windows PC only), at a suggested list price of $2,295.

Do you think you’re spending too much time staring at a video screen?
According to a Nielsen study, the average person spends 8 hours a day looking at screens, whether on a TV, computer, mobile device or even an advertising screen in a grocery store checkout line. 
The poll, reports an article in the New York Times, was the largest most intense survey undertaken by the TV monitoring service. Instead of relying on people’s memories of what they did, pollsters followed them around for several days, making note of when and how they looked at the myriad of screens all around their world.
The New York Times article writes, “The researchers found that television and video games attract the most undivided attention, while other actions (like listening to music) often occur while people are doing other things.” which shows that people really do prefer to lay back and relax when watching video, and that we are in the right business at the right time to capitalize on that viewer market.
