I have a passion for producing video. For me, my passion for video is certainly obsessive, and at times all consuming. I can't watch TV or go to the movies without analyzing and dissecting every shot, every effect, every line, every scene. Sometimes I wish I could just enjoy a film like everyone else...I think it is my unrelenting desire to be an academy recognized filmmaker that perpetuates my drive for self-education in filmmaking.
I started making video in 1993 with a huge VHS camcorder from Sears. I filled my house with consumer grade analog decks and mixers. In those days you had to press all the right buttons at precisely the right moment - or - you started over. Perfection was nearly unobtainable. In those days, You REALLY had to WANT to do video.
Today with the digital video and computer non-linear editing, post production has become incredibly fun. Drag and drop to do what used to take days. Perfection is a given.
I have finally gotten to the point where I have very little consumer equipment and that has made it much easier to get the quality I want. I started my own production company, Falling Star Films,LLC to finally start doing the work I enjoy. I've been doing weddings, recitals, corporate training films, event videography, etc., for 15 years. I think it's time I start getting paid for doing what I love.
My next goal is submitting a documentary to the Birmingham Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival.
Never give up, follow your dreams and make a wish on a Falling Star Film.
