Boycalgery has set up a new chat room for all of us at his forum ! He and I have been talking about a MEP users group. What we would like to do is form a Users Group much like what some of the other NLE's have. It would be a place where MEP users can meet, talk, discuss video and issues with MEP plus also socialize and get to know each other.
His forum is the core of that group. There MEP users can ask technical questions and get answers.

To start the group we thought it would be a good idea to have a chat room where we can talk and discuss video. So Boycalgery set up the chat room there.

Thursday Night (USA 08/07/08 8:00pmcst) we will have our first chat session. We would like to invite you if you can be in the chat room at that time! :D :D

If we can get some folks to come then we will have a regular chat room meeting Each Thursday Night! If there is interest then we plan to expand on the idea and set up a Showcase area to feature your videos and some other things. Of course all of this is free.

So, we'd like to see you in the chat room Thursday Night!!! Just come to the forum and click on the Chat Room link at the top of the page. We will be there to greet you!

This is a bold idea and we would like you to come and participate, Perhaps we can build a core group to keep it going!

We hope to see you in the Chat Room Thursday night!!!

afveteran,

Premiere Pro can in fact open Premiere Elements projects. You would use the open command and not the import command, but it should import the project file and then the media used in the project.

What versions of the programs were you trying it with?

Hello !

A talented friend (worked in TV Commerical industry -20 yrs) is helping me with my documentary project. When I started in Nov. 2007, little did I know that I would have file format compatibility issues using Premiere Elements & Premiere Pro.

Much to my dismay and annoyance ! Premiere Pro does NOT SUPPORT Adobe .Prel file formats. Lesson learned if your serious about NonLinear Editing, don't use Premiere Elements!

Adobe Online Support for Elements and Premiere Pro do not make any reference in either programs online or in Manuals. With this said I would not use Premiere Pro because exporting the finished (final rough cut) to Final Cut Pro there are several issues related to creating an EDL.

However, I admit this is my limited experience. Use CAUTION AND AVOID UNCESSARY FRUSTRATION.

what format are you attempting to capture to? dv to windows avi files are roughly 13 gigabytes per hour, so 15 minutes would be roughly 3.3 gigabytes. If you are trying to capture to the computer and simultaneously compress to mpeg2, the computer may be overheating because of the huge load you are putting on the processor. If you haven't opened your case and blown out the dust bunnies, do so, and ensure that your cooling fans are working properly.

Dear Members

I have a new problem while capturing video from my DV video camera. Usually 15 minutes of capture by windows video maker will generate about 250 mb size file. Recently windows video maker started malfunctioning - the programs hangs off after 10 seconds capture. Possibly due to the fact video compression is not working I guess. so I have downloaded and tried so many other softwares. All of them are generating huge file size of about 60 to 90 mb per minute. So it appears to be something wrong with one of the drives of the computer. Can any one advise me what could be the problem and how to fix.  Or suggest some Video Capture software that can handle the video compression more effectively. Thanks & regards, Kiwisri

Amazing Movie! I loved Daniel Day-Lewis. He did an excellent job. This is now my new favorite movie! The music was awesome, Very Suspenseful!

I just got the 2 disc DVD for There Will Be Blood and it is a must have. The packaging is made recycled material almost like parchment paper. Kind of ironic if you think about it.

Two Disc which is the one I ordered. The Extras include 15 Minutes of pics, research, ETC., Trailers, Fishing sequence, Haircut/ Interrupted Hymm, Dailies Gone Wold and THE STORY OF PETROLEUM (ea 1923)

This is a must have for any Dainiel Day-Lewis Fans out there. Very well acted and very dramatic. From what I read the story is very close to the 1920's oil industry.

Aperture 2.0, Promise, XMiL and HDV at lafcpug, March 26

The next meeting of the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group (lafcpug) will be Wednesday, March 26, 2008 beginning at 6:45PM at the Gallery Theatre in Hollywood CA. Join us as we welcome Promise Technology and Aperture 2.0 and the world debut of XMiL Sequencer to lafcpug. Many of you have heard that Apple dropped their Xserve Raid and suddenly this company named Promise Technology and their VTrak E-Class RAID Subsystem shows up on the Apple site seemingly taking it's place. So who is this company? What is Vtrak? Does it have blinking blue lights? Paul McLeod, Senior Marketing Specialist from Promise will show and tell. Aperture 2.0 just shipped and features over 100 new features for the still photographer. What you might not know is that Aperture should be in every Final Cut Pro editor's toolbox. Apple's Kirk Paulsen will show you why. XMiL Sequencer. converts an XML file exported from a Final Cut Pro timeline and turns it into an Avid Log Exchange (ALE) file. This file can then be imported into an Avid nonlinear editing system, turning the segments used in the FCP timeline into Avid master clips. Editor and author Rainier Standke will demo. This will be the world premiere of Xmil Sequencer. Plus, Converting HDV to ProRes 422 - and why you want to with Larry Jordan, Stump The Gurus, Show and Tells and of course, World Famous Raffle. A $5.00 donation will be requested at the door. Doors open at 6PM. lafcpug meetings are open to the public. First come, best seat. For complete info and directions to the Gallery Theatre in Hollywood visit the lafcpug web site. http://www.lafcpug.org/user_schedule.html

Hi Keith, and thanks for the timely and on-topic reply.

You certainly have an impressive and professional-looking videowebsite to your credit and I thoroughly enjoyed browsing through it. Compared to the high quality of your videosite my first attempts to post video on www.mydvdnyc.com must look positively amateurish. However...

The purpose of my post is to communicate with other videographers on the idea of creating and establishing a website network of videographers for the purpose of increasing our visibility and sales on the Internet. I want to do real estate videos in order to augment my income and towards this end have purchased the domain name of The Real Estate Video Show. You can link to it now under the domain name of www.ListYourRealEstateFree.com and click on the Videographers Forum to get a feel for what I am trying to create for an association of videographers in the field of real estate.

The potentials and possibilties for this sort of Internet organizing by videographers are topics worthy of discussion in themselves.

WOW! There is so much info to accomplish all the above, I don't think the server could handle it. ;)

I have been hammering away for about 8 months and still have about 2% digested. Here's my site that started as a way for broadcasters to screen footage to buy.

http://www.kbvp.com

Some of my footage has been used on the major networks, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and a ton of reality shows. The hardest part of keeping the web site going is keeping it fresh with new content. I have hundreds of hours of resource material, but to make the web site visible to the world, you need to develop written content that is to the point and has enough wording to enable search engines to point to your site. The better you do this, the higher you are on the search results. search: Northern California Video Production

One of my productiuons was on the F-22 Raptor. ( search: F-22 Raptor video )When people search for a video of it, I ussually rank within the top 5 of a Google search. I get between 150 and 600 hits a day just on that one video. The site is getting enough traffic to enable basic Google advertising. This more than pays for the site expenses. I manage all the video and still content, but my webmaster keeps all the nuts and bolts tight.

It's not an easy task if you are serious about starting up a new site. Get a web master that is local and save a lot of time in communication delays. Some of my clients have web sites maintained in South America and have real issues when material needs to be mailed to a foriegn country. Above all else, you must be willing to spend the time and enjoy your work, otherwise it's counter-productive.

I am a retired electronics and software engineer who is looking for a position in the video industry. Pay is not a consideration. Recently I worked as a volunteer (non-paid) for our local village television station, GVTV cable channel 6 and 17. During the past 3 years I have worked as director, producer, editor and cameraman. I produced a series of 3 restaurant review programs called Great Eating In Glenview. These programs were about 45 minutes long. My last program was a Civil War re-enactment about 55 minutes long. I was the producer, director, and editor, one of cameramen and wrote the script for a good portion of the program. The actors who had volunteered were participants in the re-enactment. This program was videographed and edited from a very unique viewpoint. I spend approximately 175 hours of my time producing this program.

As a teenager I started with still photography and then moved to 8 and super 8 movies. At that time I was frustrated at not being able to produce the kind of movies that I wanted because of the technologies of the times. But, now I can make the kind of movies that I want because of digital video cameras and computer editing software.

At GVTV I used a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-VX2000 video camera and did editing on Final-Cut-Pro. Since then I have installed Adobe Premiere Element on one of my computers so that I can do editing at my home office.

Can you use my help? I would like to work in the video industry not for pay but for fun. Being an engineer I have worked with many different software programs and can easily adapt to all kinds of video software. Likewise I can learn how to use different cameras and support electronics.
