Ohhh and Alienware would make a great video editing computer (since they come with a shitload of RAM and upgraded video and sound cards) but you'd have to go with PC based video editing software...

Well if it's for video editing I would get the new macbook pro (laptop) or the new mac pro (desktop), upgrade the video and sound cards and up the RAM and you'll be good to go.. FCP is the standard and it doesn't work on a PC...

Hello bmills -

Thanks for reply. I agree that Alienware has some impressive equipment but am a litle leary of them as their thing sems to be gaming of which I am not. The others I mentioned are pushing video editing of which I am. So feel a bit more comfortable with them which of course could be totally unfounded. I also agree that B&H is a good outfit as have done business with them. Hope I can come up with something soon as old computer about to expire. Thanks again.

If you're looking to get camera gear online, I would order from B and H (I think bandhphoto.com). B and H is a HUGE camera, lighting, accessory store located in NYC...

It is for the web. I haven't used movie maker in a looong time, but I believe there is a way to change the output size, sorry I i'm don't remember exactly how to do it though.. Also, if you have quicktime pro, or if you go download a free .avi converter (that's beauty of PC - FREE software!!!) the converter should allow you change the size...

Should I use different sizes for web and dvd? Yes. This will mostly depend on your file format and the resolution of the original file, but yes 320x240 is waaay to small for tv.. I believe, and i could be wrong about this, but SD tv is like 720x480...

hmm...I've never heard of that happening with a Quicktime File before. Maybe he needed to update the version of Quicktime player. I'll look into it.

Also, when you say A/V settings. Do you mean all that stuff in the dialogue box when you go to Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings in the menu bar? If, I can do that too.

I might be confusing an export problem I had with quicktime pro and not FCP.. Either way, I exported some quicktime files that do strange things.. For example, one file opened on my PC, but not on a guy I work with's mac that has final cut (express), quicktime pro, etc...

Also, a DETAILED tutorial on the MANY setting A/V setting options would be cool..

When I edit with Windows Movie Maker and save the video to my computer, it saves it at 320 X 240 size. Is there any way to get it to save it at least 640 X 480? Also, what would you say is the best size for standard definition video?

Great minds think alike. I already had this in mind. One question though:

What do you mean by a file that will work on PC and Mac? All files exported out of FCP are some kind of Quicktime file. I've exported files from FCP as a Quicktime and loaded them to a client's server. They then downloaded from the server onto their PC and played the file without a problem.

Now, I know there is a download that allows export from FCP to Windows Media player, and that will work on a PC as well.

I will do the research, but as far as I know, the exported file needs to match the player -- If you export a quicktime from FCP, your PC needs quicktime player, if you export a WMV file from FCP, the PC needs Windows Media Player.

Does that make sense? Like I said, I will do some research and see if I find anything new.

Thank you for the suggestion!

VIO has a decent recorder but the problem is CMOS. You can build similar systems much cheaper with a nice 560 or 580 CCD cam and a D1 recorder. The color replication on a CMOS cam just can't compare to a nice CCD.

I am thinking about making video tutorials covering Final Cut Studio 2. Then I can start a blog for all to view for convenience. If you don't already know, the major programs included in this bundle are Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color, Compressor, and DVD Studio Pro.

So, if anyone wants to request a tutorial for any program, I will be more than happy to provide one. Take note that Final Cut Pro is the program I know best, but I will be able to answer some questions regarding any program.

Also, you can count on being disappointed if you are expecting to see a tutorial next week. I'm still in the planning stages, which isn't much, but still takes time. If you need to know something right away, then clearly state it when you request the tutorial. I will at least respond in writing.

Thanks guys.

Plan your program and shots you want to shoot. Then shoot those shots. Then edit them in an editing program such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Sony Vegas. Lastly, export as an H.264 file for the web. A standard definition camera is more than capable of delivery quality images. I suggest a Sony PD170 or Panasonic DVX100B. Both are miniDV camcorders.

Thanks for suggestion regarding corders -I will look into these units right away..

Digital 8....educate me a lil...I am thinking right up that alley = separate cameras into a switchbox. I have absolutely no equip yet, just???'s. Any cameras have remote zoom for real time live editing during Action play, etc?

I am very highly concerned about accurate speed/direction pickup by camera - This is the point of the lessons and monitoring in the first place!! Would older analog be better? Check out propool videos for the ball speed inaccuracies I speak of. At first I thought it was bad streaming, but even after saving to disk @replay it is still there. Thanks to both you guys for your help!!

I don't know if this idea would work for you...but here goes...

I got 3 Sony video cameras. 2 high def (for this set-up, I'd have to shoot in sd), one digital 8.

I can set two cameas up to record on thier respective medias, dv tape and hd. Plug in the s video cable outs to a cheap audio/video selector box and run the ouput in "S" video to the digital 8 camcorder.

Use the vcr function on the digital 8. Plug the firewire out into my computer, and from there use quicktime pro or quicktime broadcaster or any nle to capture/broadcast the footage. simply pressing a button on the switchbox, to switch camera feeds.

after shooting, I still got the whole footage from each camera to edit with.

multi camera, with audio/video selectors, and ability to webcast live.....cheap.

There will be select low price leaders with limited stock (they'll say 20, but probably only one or two & usually no rain checks) at around half the regular price. Sometimes these places only feature the items for a limited number of hours, or certain hours, drawing lines that circle around the building prior to opening time.

I cannot remember which store (Walmart, I think) got a targeted item outed before-hand - a Samsung 52" HD telley for $499.

I hope someone might help me out here--I plan on doing billiard instruction with a 3-4 camera setup capable of providing accurate timing...Streaming video on the net does not accurately represent the speed, finesse and technique of the different strokes involved in pool/billiards. What would be a good cost-effective setup to allow 1 cameras to record and be mixed at a later time or in real time?

Well, I doubt anyone here works at Best Buy, so I don't know if you'd get an accurate answer. I've never shopped on Black Friday...is EVERYTHING on sale? If not, then don't count on something you want being cheap. Just go with the intent to purchase at full price. Then you'll be extra psyched if you see that it's on sale.
