This is not a question but a solution to a problem that I had and found nothing anywhere on the interweb about it.

If in Premiere CS4 you right click a clip and select "Replace with After Effects Composition" and it gives you the error "could not connect to after effects," close premiere and after effects, open your task manager and kill all the processes related to adobe:
dynamiclinkmanager.exe
ImporterProcessServer.exe
processcoordinationserver.exe

Restart Premiere and it should be fixed.

Hi there, I've been charged with finding and renting a 2nd video camera for a coming production that I am involved in helping out on - our main camera is a JVC GY HD111e and we're looking for a second camera that will be cheap but will be able to be shoulder-mounted & record in HD to miniDV's. I have sent away a few emails to some companies I found in the Yellow Pages and am awaiting a list back from these companies with the available cameras but I'm really just asking for some real-world advice here.

I'm based in the UK and have never rented any video equipment, I would just love some advice or for anyone to share their experiences of renting a camera as I would like to know a little and not be completely ripped off! Have you ever rented and how much did it cost? Did you find any way to squeeze more value out of the rental? Any hints, tips and information would be greatly appreciated. =)

I have used a VX2000 for many years. It is a great camera. I have two new FX1000 cameras and yes they are better, but if your final product is DVD it is hard to beat the VX2000. Some things I love about the VX2000, excellent auto focus even on moving subjects and low light. Line in/ Mic in switch. Excellent auto control of audio levels. Great battery life. Great iris/gain control operation. Easy to find buttons (in the dark). I did seriously think of buying up a couple more new ones before they disappeared, but I decided to go with the FX1000 to kind of "future proof" my business.

I think you can do an outstanding job with some pretty inexpensive video cameras; however, if this is going to be a hobby/business that you intend to grow I suggest you spend a little more on your camera than you need. People who don't know anything about what you are doing will make judgements based upon your cameras. An expensive camera draws attention and potential clients. People will give your tripods a wide berth if they see a professional camera on it. I also think you need two cameras. I've always shot with at least two. One gives me the long shot and my safety, then I'm free with my second camera to go for the "money shot". Low light performance is very important. Some churches are poorly lit for video and they may be going by candlelight. Reception venues can be worse. Wireless? I've been on a lot of movie sets and they spend a ton on wireless, but they still don't trust them so they back them up with wired mics. I have a wireless mic. I've used it a few times. I don't trust it. Do you know what an Zoom H4 unit is? They are fantastic. You can use them as they are or add a shot gun to them. Basically you only need it for the vows anyways. I hope I didn't scare you off. I know you're going to have a great time. Realize that you probably can't avoid making a few hardware mistakes, I've made my share.

I've tried to do 5.1 audio in PP but I find it very clumsy. I think someone out there must have figured out this work flow better than I. Because you have to do the source channel mapping before the clips are used in the timeline, I have to put them in the timeline, sync them, export the audio, import the audio, do the source channel mapping, add each channel of the 5.1 then drop the clips into the timeline. Seems kinda like a work around to me. Does anyone know a better way of doing this. Gerry in Calgary.

The VX 1000 is an excellent camera. When I bought mine it cost me $7000!. There is lots of ways to go here but I'm going to suggest one that hasn't been offered. Use Adobe OnLocation and a laptop. The screen is much bigger than most remote monitors, plus it gives you a whole lot more information. You can of course, throw away your tapes. You'll be able to do edit without capturing. The tape drive on my VX 2000 died so that's why I got into it. I have two new FX1000s and I still use a laptop on one so I never have to worry about swapping tapes. It is not as portable as a FireStore but you can pick up a new laptop for a lot less or you can use one that you've got kicking around. Gerry in Calgary

You camera will perform exactly the same whether it is shooting HD or SD but if your out put is SD DVD your SD footage may look better because of the compression that is involved in encoding. I have two FX1000 and my footage is never the problem, it is the encoding. The blacks look much better and there is less digital noise if I use the camera to downsample the file when I author to DVD. If you find a better way to encode please let us know. Gerry in Calgary.

Thanks bunches! Jules

EventVideoguy, i am glad you liked it. i have been watching some tutorials on videocopilot.net for a few weeks now, but i am really dont know how to really use AF by myself. I kinda got how to do the 3D movements that i used on the video a day before i actually made the video. That's why it is not really "professional" (Oh, the fact that i am a 14 years old and and my school's computer that has AF is crappy also helps =D) LOL

Composite1, i sure will sent him an email. I just wanted to see if anyone here knew, and if i got an answer, someone who had the same question i have could also been helped.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the replies, gents. Earl, my research indicates you're correct - a title in itself can't be copyrighted, but a stylized logo or photo representation of that title can be... I'll likely do the shots to blur the books a little. Composite1, you're right that that's probably the simplest path in the long run.

Keep shooting!

Hi Borak
You don't mention what you want to use the camera for. An entry-level prosumer camcorder (Canon XHA1 as an example) will cost you closer to $3000.

I also own a Canon HV40. It is a very good camcorder and will hapily shoot both high definition and standard definition. I can recommend it. It will allow you to gain experience while shooting great video.

I have a Edirol V4 video mixer that I used a few times in our church media. I paid about $900 for this last year and it has been stored in a protective case since then. I would like to purchase other needed equipment for our church. I need $600 for the mixer plus shipping costs. It is in like new condition.

"... you can still build a house with a hammer and a handsaw ...."

True. But ask a professional carpenter would he rather build said house with 'medieval tools' or the latest Black & Decker line of powertools....

We're looking to move with the DSLR's for our theatrical projects. Though we intend to spend the money on mattebox kits, I'd rather rig them out for the DSLR's. I currently have no intention of abandoning tape anytime soon, but the DSLR's are a nice option and we already use canon still rigs so the transition won't be so tough.

But in agreement with Earl's statement; I've built a number of houses. Now I'm getting ready to build mansions.

Hey guys. So, the other day i was making a quick video for my sister (REALLY QUICK! I made it in 40 minutes or so...) on After Effects, and i was working in 3D. Well, the values for my X,Y, and Z axis were huge, about 7 thousand and something... So my question is if those values normal or am i controlling the camera in a wrong way? The way i do it is just to create a Null Object, add the "Separate XYZ" effect to it (So i can control each one individually), and i parent the camera to it. but after some time, working with those inmense numbers get really confusing and frustrating!

So, any tips on how i should control the camera to get smaller values?

Btw, if yall need to see how "far" the camera was moving, here is the video. The language is in portuguese, so i am sorry if yall dont understand it... =D
