I make roughly 300 DVDs per year, authoring on DVD Studio Pro, and printing with an Epson ink-jet printer. My question is if anyone can suggest a place to buy top-quality (TYG01) Taiyo Yuden discs.

I have been using TYG02 quality, the best quality that I have been able to find, from Supermediastore.com, and have had reasonably good luck avoiding quality issues like skipping or hesitation. (I have found from experience that anything less than TYG02 will give me problems (on my cheap "test" player - I have to assume some of my customers will not have the best players). However, on long programs (approaching 2 hours on a disc), I still have some occasional hesitation.

I encode using Compressor, and never exceed 7 MBps encode rate.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi all! I need to create a presentation DVD, and am not sure what software would be best for this -

It needs to be a disc that will load up automatically when inserted, has a root menu wil links to seperate files (pdfs, photos, other), and if possible, the software would allow for a fair bit of customisation - it sounds like there should be plenty out there - but I can't find anything quite right, only stuff that allows powerpoint presentation conversion etc. - not ideal. I would've thought even CD burning software tools would come packaged with something like this these days (e.g. NERO etc.)

Any thoughts, much appreciated.

I want to capture some analogue video from my VCR (old videos, maybe transfer them to DVD or upload to YouTube) to my PC. I have an old Goodmans VCR that only has RF connections and one scart socket at the back (see this photo http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56/csplace/prof/DSC00002.jpg ). There are no other input/outputs, no RCA/phono for audio. My analogue capture card/TV tuner looks like this - http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56/csplace/prof/DSC00003.jpg . So it has S-Video, AV in, an Audio out + Audio in (phono) and an RF aerial socket. Can I get both video and audio to my computer if I run an RF cable from the 'Antenna Out' at the back of the VCR to the RF connection on my capture device? Can I even get video? I'm confused about this because every article on the internet about this suggest that I need to use an RCA 'red/white/yellow' cable. But since I don't have this option at the back of my VCR, what can I do? Do I need some kind of converter? I want both video AND audio in sync.

Hi, I live in Latin America and I have a Sony HVR-A1 PAL. Here, most players and TV sets are both PAL-NTSC, but now I've been asked to create a DVD for selling abroad, specially Europe and South Africa.

I will appreciate if you could tell me if is necessary the transconding, or not. I guess that NTSC for DVDs is the standard format and most compatible. For USA and Japan I believe is it really necessary.

I use Adobe CS4 products. How is the best way to convert the PAL footage to NTSC with this suite? I am shooting HDV but the final product is DVD. I can stand a little of image degradation, as this is not for broadcast, but the best quality, the better.

Thank you

I am wanting to capture screen shots (JPG pictures) from my video footage. After talking to software reps on the phone, most of them claim to have this ability in their software. My followup question to them has been what resolution can I expect from screen shots. None of the reps seem to know, or want to commit to, the answer.

I have some old, and newer, video captured on regular 8, Hi8 and mini-DV tape and would like to capture screen shots to keep as JPGs.

I would really appreciate any help in this matter. Does anyone have good info on which software programs capture the highest resolution screen shots: Premiere, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Vegas, Avid, Pinnacle, etc.?

Thanks to all for helping!

I have some questions about source editing for DVD creation using Everio .mod files as the source. I currently film for a halau in my area using a JVC GZ-MG330 camcorder. Now, I realize that the source I'm pulling from the Everio, even on highest settings, are not going to be of the best quality but as of this time it's all I've got to work with.

Onto my questions -> I've tried various different programs and techniques for editing my videos and authoring them to DVD and I keep coming back to the TMPGEnc suite of programs as coming out with the best quality, for me at least. I've worked with the videos using PowerDirector and PowerCinema which come with it, and I've also tried Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier. Believe it or not, the Cyberlink solutions came out with some decent looking video output to the DVDs. At this time what I'm doing is using MPEG Streamclip to convert the video to a compliant MPEG format and make my cuts then using the TMPGEnc tools to tweak and then finally author the DVD.

Is there any way I can make my edits any easier, without having to re-encode and lose quality from an already finicky source? I'm mainly either cutting a full performance video into individual songs, taking out camera shifts and such between songs during the cutting process, or combining multiple song footage into 1 file so that I then can create the chapter breaks in the authoring software.

TMPGEnc has so far given me the best results, and it's somewhat frustrating because I will spend an unbelievably long time working with a new piece of software, because I'm stubborn and just 'KNOW' there has to be an easier/faster way, and then the result comes out of such low quality that I am unwilling to let it out of my hands so I go back with TMPGEnc and make short work of it to finish it out for production.

Now, I do this work for the halau for free, my wife dances and teaches hula for them and I video performances for their teaching purposes and for the families of some of the dancers. But even though I perform this service gratis, I still have some pride. I am going to be upgrading to a better camera, but for now this is the only one I have.

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

I have a specific project in PowerDirector v. 7 that shows blank (black) video when loaded. The PiP and audio tracks work just fine; I thougt for a moment that my software was not communicating with my hardrive camcorder at all.

I am able to playback the same footage (same location "G:\SD_VIDEO") within the library, but cannot get it to show up on the master video track. In simpler words: No camcorder footage plays properly on the timeline. Other projects that contain camcorder video load and run just fine. I really don't want to start over.

For those who have experience with PowerDirector, any advice?

Hi everyone,

Here is my system summary :

 > Mainboard : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P4C800
> Chipset : Intel i875PE
> Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 2600 MHz
> Physical Memory : 1024 MB (2 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
> Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce FX 5600 [NV31.2]
> Hard Disk : Promise (240 GB)
> CD-Rom Drive : PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W8432T
> DVD-Rom Drive : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D
> Monitor Type : LG Electronics L177WSB - 17 inches
> Network Card : 3COM Corp, Networking Division 3C940 Gigabit Ethernet PCI CODEC
> Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2
> DirectX : Version 9.0c (February 2006)
> Authoring Software : Pinnacle Studio Ultimate V.12

I totally backed up my footage onto the computer and the file is in MTS File Format.

What I did is the following :

1. I converted the MTS file to AVI Interleave Audio Video Interleaved 1280x720 with 30Fps using Alive HD Video Converter which is a powerful video converter that converts HD video including m2t, m2ts AVCHD video to popular PC video formats which can be supported by Microsoft Movie Maker, Windows Media Player or Adobe Premiere Pro. Alive HD Video Converter converts HD video files to AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, Xvid, MP4, 3GP and MP3 format.

2. I used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate V.12 to edit my footage.

3. Burn into DVD format and voila, jerky videos....terrible "ghosting" effect.

Could anyone tell me what I did wrong ?

My guess is the current computer system is outdated, and I used the wrong codec. The Graphic Card might not support HD, or maybe the resolution was too high for DVD format.

I have used Sony Videocam before and transfered via Firewire, and succeeded in making good DVD, but with Canon HG10, this could not be achieved as easily.

Whatever it is, would anyone in the forum be able to help me with the situation ?

Thank you for time and effort.

I feel like I am niave for even asking this question.Â

I currently make video slideshows and burn each individual one on my computer. More and more I have been asked to make 5-7 copies. It seems like it is taking too much time and I was going to invest in a DVD tower duplicator which I could do 3-5 per time.

My questions are, do those duplicators make a true dvd with a menu? Can I hook it up directly to my computer and burn right from my software which is Sony DVD Architect? I know this is a very vague question.Â

Okay, so here is my problem.

When I test my DVD within DVD studio, everything is fine.

When I put my DVD in a real DVD player, the functions seem off.

To get this out of the way, I test in multiple DVD players include my MAC DVD player.

If I am skipping throught the chapters on a video using my remote, when I get to the end of the video clip and I hit the chapter button again, it takes my to another random video clip.

I can't figure out how to stop this. What I'd like is either have the chapter button take me back to the menu screen, or have it go directly to a video clip of my choosing. I can't find a function for this though.

Hi. Ok, so I have finished my project and want to put it on a DVD. I render it as a MPEG2 file. Someone said to save the audio and video seperately. Can anyone briefly explain how to do this? Then when rendered I open it up in my DVD authoring software and bingo?! Most videos will be 60 minutes or less so I can render at 8mbps.Â

Anything I need to know?

Pioneer introduced the BDR-202 Blu-Ray burner last year and it was named one of our 10 best. While Pioneer did not introduce a new generation of Blu-ray burner in 2008, the cost dropped dramatically from over $500 to under $300 and the Videoguys went out and put together an external USB bundle that allowed both PC & Mac, desktop or laptop video editors to add Blu-Ray Disc burning to their machines. for under $300!! Our BDR-202 Mega X bundle includes the Vantec NexStar DX 5.25" External USB Enclosure for the BDR-202 drive that assembles in minutes and allows you to take the BDR-202 with you anywhere and attach it to any computer. All for just $299.95 and that includes a 6-pack of Verbatim Blu-Ray Media (5 BD-R and 1 BD-RE).

In 2008 Blu-ray won the High Definition format war. There are millions of Sony PlayStation 3's in living rooms all over the world that are also Blu-ray players. This past holiday season prices on Blu-ray players dropped dramatically with many stores promoting Blu-ray players at under $250. With the release of "Dark Knight" on Blu-ray we finally have a title worth paying extra for, loaded with additional Blu-ray content and features.

By now, many of our customers have migrated to HD camcorders. Now is the time to start delivering that HD content to your friends, family, customers and clients. Our BDR-202 Mega X bundle is the perfect solution for you. Especially if you are editing with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro CS3/CS4 or Sony Vegas Pro 8. You have all the software you need; all that is missing is this bundle. (Apple Final Cut Pro owners are still going to have to invest in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or Production Premium CS4 to get Blu-ray Disc authoring).

HiÂ

I am making a dvd menu with an active area and an image to be displayed when the button is highlighted. Encore sees this highlighted image as a button, therefore it interferes with the other buttons on the menu. Is there a way of specifying the hit state for a button so it doesn't include this highlighted image?Â

Thanks in advance!

If you do, then what do you recommend I remember as I look for one? Any tips?

I'm specifically looking at USB-connected external DVD burners for my trusty Dell Inspiron 1100, although in theory, all USB things should work with any computer. Still, you never know.

If nothing else, can you point me somewhere I can learn more?

An answer ASAP is appreciated. Thanks in advance! chris of colorado

Hello. I have a Sony DCR DVD 608E DVD Handycam. It records captured video on mini DVD-R/DVD-RW. It records for 30MIN in SP, 20MIN in HQ,60MIN in LP. I normally use SP mode. So I have many videos in parts of 30 mins. I was using Nero Vision to edit and join videos, add effects and text. But Nero Vision don't imports Subtitles (that is date and time). Subtitle files are txt or rtf but there is no such file in VIDEO_TS folder. Even I tried CyberLink PowerProducer and PowerDirector but both didn't imported subtitles.I also tried Sony Vegas,DVD Architect. Finally I found Corel Video Studio. It successfully imported subtitles. But it didn't imported subtitles as subtitles, it directly imprinted them on main video. There are about 40GBs of video. I want to burn them in 4.7GB DVDs. So that I can compile about 4 mini DVDs. But I want subtitles in the video as subtitles. Also I want to create a Menu. So please tell me a fast software that will import subtitles along with video as subtitles (not imprinted in video).
