How are you guys and gals doing? Newbie here. I have shot many home movies on normal home camcorders(son and daughters sports and performances) and Im kinda tired of the "home movie" look. So my question is, is it worth spending the money on an entry level pro sumer camera? Does the camera alone change the look of the movie or am I going to have to put in hours of post production time on the computer to make it look a little more professional? I dont need it to look like monday night football but it would be nice if it looked a little more quality. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

got a question i was just thinking by chance is the bluray movie just a add on filter to the movie to make it look clear cut like say if you used a filter like 24pcinemode? i know it looks better cause the more use of raw footage but do you think there is a filter you can add to movie footage to give it that look? hopefully i said that right thanks

1. Recording and posting on youtube and other video sites with great quality.

2. i will be recording myself in front of a green screen most of the time.

3. i want to be able to put the video on dvd with a bluray type quality.

4. i need to be able to hook and external mic to it.

5. looking for either (Sd,Flash) cards or internal harddrives

I have purchased a sanyo HD2000 and also vagus 9 to use for my hang gliding business.

The movies are taking way to long to make. Is it normal for a 20 minute DVD to take up to 3 hours to even render? This is without any txt or special effects.

I had just purchased a Sony VX2100 used, and it takes great video. My question is this I have a Dell 3000 PC and was told I need a PCI card. Could some one direct me in the right direction, some use USB and others use firewire cables. The cable supplied with camera, Sony calls a I-Link cable. I know this cable will not fit a USB port and was told not to use a USB for it will deteriorate the quality of video. I looked at various sites and this further confuses me. Sony only wants to sell me their walkman for $900.00. I need to know which PCI card I need for my Dell 3000 and if any drivers or soft wear is needed in order to upload video from my Sony VX2100 to my computer and or internet. Thanks TOM

Some of you are already shooting with DSLR rigs like the Canon 5D Mk II, Canon 7D and the Nikon D90. Meanwhile, many like myself are very interested in the tech but are still waiting to find out more about workflows and glitches before we make any purchases.

I came across this article by Oliver Peters and he gives some 'straight talk' about the pros and cons concerning working with the new DSLR's. Take a look and hopefully, it will aid in your decision on whether or not you want to go the DSLR way. One thing is for sure, DSLR's are the wave of the future.

Im having issues with a tape that looks like it had a head clog but no indication that that was taking place while recording. The tape recorded fine for a couple min. I stopped the tape and checked it then recorded again. During Playback my tape check was okay but the tape didn't engage for about three min while my viewfinder indicated that it was recording. The tape has black bars that runs horizontally across the screen. Then the video frags out for a few seconds and clears itself in another couple seconds. If I stop the tape and rewind and play the section back i get pink bars that also runs horizontally across the screen. Is this a tape issue or a camera problem? Thanks

My 13yo son has been using an old version of Pinnacle Studio for a few years now and I wanted to upgrade him. I purchased Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere 7 for basic editing, but then found that he was interested in Adobe After Effects (CS4). My question is ... would he still need to use Premiere 7 (or similar) as a basic editor prior to using After Effects? Or does After Effects also provide for the basic editing. I'm confused.

Obviously SW isn't my thing, so I would appreciate the feedback.

Hi All,

I am looking for a good laptop for editing HD videos on the go. Here are some of my criteria:

Run Pinnacle Stuido version 10 or higher, efficiently.

Ideally a smaller laptop for increased portability (screen size is not really important)

Budget of around $500.

What kind of processor should I go with, Intel or AMD? Do I need dual core? How much RAM should I target? Does an integrated card with maxed out memory work ok, or should I fork up more money and get a laptop with a dedicated card? Any brand names I should gravitate towards, or stay away from? 32 bit or 64 bit OS? Is it worthwhile getting a Windows 7 laptop, or should I take advantage of sales on Vista based systems?

Any practical suggestions that you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,

Recently bought a Panasonic HDC-TM300 High Definition video camera. (Yes, it's lovely.) Played with it shooting stuff on the street etc. Imported them to my computer and the played fine using an ordinary viewer. Now my computer doesn't recognise these same files. Shot some more saving to an SD card. Can't get the computer to play them nor the ones already imported THAT DID PLAY when I first imported them. Investigated and found they were M2TS files. Adobe Premiere Elements 7 does accept them but plays them haltingly, seeming to jump several frames along as it bumbles through. Very puzzled that files that did run now don't. They all play perfectly well if reviewed within the camera itself. I know little about the ins and outs of video file formats. Nor, I admit, about the technicalities of video recording itself. I would like to learn. All help very gratefully received.

What is the trick to add the same person multiple times in a scene? I have an impersonator who does 4 characters and i want to shoot them in one scene sitting in a waiting room... they dont have to get up or cross another character. How can that be accomplished? thanks for any advice in advance ....

What I am struggling with is my timecode. I will record timecode to tape and say that I record 00:01:50 worth. Then when I rewind my tape to 00:01:00 instead of the timecode picking up from where I rewound to it (00:01:00 ) will continue recording up from where I originally stoped (00:01:50).

How do I get the deck to lay down timecode from the previous frame and not where I stopped it?

THanks,

I was gonna have a custom computer built for editing. But found out here in my local area, Mac is the standard everyone uses. And if it requires more, you rent it. And realized i should get a mac. I will get a nice discount due to accademic pricing on all software and computers i get. But stuck on which Mac model I should get.

I'd like to get a Mac Mini. Since I'm looking at price first. It's a desktop, but still portable if needed. But does it have the Memory, graphic and processing power to edit video with Adobe Premiere, and other Production Suite Apps? I think it does. But id like to make sure before i go out and get one.

The other option I'm looking at is a Macbook Pro. As it has the 8 gigs of memory without getting the full blown mac pro...which i do NOT have the money to get no mater how much I'd like to have it. But its a considerable price increas just to have the extra 4 gigs of memory that the Mac Mini cant have (The Macbook pro im looking at even has the same graphics card as the Mini.)

Or could i just get a plain old Macbook for full portability? does that have the power to use Production Premiere and company? Thanks to anyone who can help me

I was wondering if anyone could help on this. In Vegas you have the option of making a DVD or Blu-Ray the problem is that I have to make a DVD in a higher resolution than 720x480 (NTSC) is it possible to have a resolution of 1920x1080 without having a Blu-Ray (iso) format.
