It's not easy eating crow considering the feathers get stuck in my throat, and not engaging my brain before sending a flaming email to JVC, and posting on Videomaker. To begin with not being able to transfer video via a fire wire cable and capturing the file in Movie Maker, or Adobe Premier Pro CS4 just didn't make any sense since kids on Youtube were offering instructions on how easy it was. The first time I called JVC the rep was clueless as to how to help me, or offer any suggestions as to how to narrow down the problem. It wasn't until I went postal, and created a new vocabulary compliments of Satan, that I flamed an email to JVC, and got a response from Mary with a phone number of 1(800) 252-5722 that gave me hope. Through her suggestions I was able to narrow down the problem to a faulty PCI card with 2-USB ports, and 2-Firewire ports Manufactured by Mi-Products that failed to work properly. This was an after market card I had added to my old computer, and transferred over to my new computer.I also took the same card, and plugged into my wife's computer which is the same as mine, and it caused the mouse pointer to stop working properly. Needless to say that card is going into the recycle bin. Now I am able to down load the video files to both Movie Maker, and Adobe Premier Pro without any glitch's, or problems. My apologies to JVC, and thank you for your support, and follow up. Despite my moniker "Georgeknows" unfortunately George doesn't know, and I have a lot to learn engaging my brain and trying to think through the problem exhausting all possibilities before sending unwarranted flaming emails to a manufacturer who goes go the extra step to support their products.

I have a miniDV video camera made by JVC, Model GR-D770U, and followed the manual indicating hooking up a fire wire cable to transfer the video from the camera to my PC running Windows XP. So far I have been unsccessful in trying to transfer the video from the camcorder to my pc, Windows Movie Maker will not capture the video, and Adobe Premier Pro CS4 would not capture the video as well, I can manipulate the camera through the software, (rewind, play, fast forward) but thats about it. I called customer support at JVC, and they couildn't help me, and despite pointing out the fact that their manual says I can, they tell me I can't, and that I need to use a DVD recorder to transfer the video in order to get it on my computer. So now i have to use a work arouind that I'm not sure will work ? And the customers service rep begins to tell me that is why JVC are changing from tape to hard drives, and sd cards, Cmon, JVC is clueless about what they are doing in the support department. I can garuntee you I'm selling my JVC camera, and purchasing another brand that will work without all this BS work around nonsense. Now I know why people prefer other video camera brands, and Macs over PC's for video editing.

Hi guys,

Seeing back your films directly from camera on your HD-TV is easy with the HDMI but.. after moving the films to pc with deliverd sw it seems we can only see these films on pc.. How to see them on HD-TV?? I want HD quality that's why I have HD-camera and TV so I don't want to see on a pc. I tryed to convert the ".TOD" files to MPEG but still my MediaBox doesn't accept it.

Best Regards, Gerard

Will the .MOD flormat for capturing video be "mainstreem" soon, it is used with only JVC Everio camcorders but I was wondering if it is a good flormat to use and capture video in or will no one use it in the next few years.
I am debating weather to keep or return my JVC Harddrive camcorder (Everio 30GB Hard Drive with 34x optical zoom)

I have a JVC GR-D770U MiniDV camcorder, and I am unable to transfer the video from my camcorder to my PC running Windows XP Pro. I have plugged in the 4-pin to 6-pin fire wire cable. I have tried to capture the video using Windows Movie Maker, and Adobe Premier Pro CS4, and they will not capture or preview the the video. With Adobe Pemier Pro an error message keeps popping up "Invalide Timecode". I know the software is communicating with the camera becuase I can rewind, play, and fast forward the tape in the camera, but I can't capture the video, or even preview it in the software. I have tried emailing JVC support, but they have failed to reply (so much for JVC). I'm at a loss as to how to overcome this obsticale, and get my video onto my hard drive. If I am unable to solve the problem with a solution I'm ready to get rid of the camera, and look for a new one. I considered a video capture card, but the camcorder is already digital, so it woiuld be redundent. I'm stumped, and frustrated, this process should not be rocket science, it shoiuld be straight forward, simple and easy to load your video onto a computer. I would appreciate any help, or suggestions you can offer.

I recently had a shoot for a European client, and I set my camcorder to record 576/50i, assuming this was a PAL format. I'm hearing now they can't view the tape at all.

Does this camcorder record PAL at all, or merely output it to an external recorder through the IEEE cable?

Okay, I have a friend that has this Camera its pretty consumer. When we plug it into her laptop Vista just sits there. Doesn't auto play or notify me that something was just plugged in. Let me list all the things i have tried so far. Camera is in VCR mode. I have tried two different cables. Which happen to be 4 pin to 4 pin. I have eliminated the firewire card itself. Windows sees my external hard drive when i plug that in. I have tried just about every combination plugging it in, ie: turning the computer off then plugging it in then turning camera on then turning on the computer. The only thing i have not really been able to do is get a firmware update. Thats because i can't find one for this camera. Thats why i turn to you all...maybe you could help me find whatever it is i might need. I tried looking at the JVC site to no avail. Then realized its a Canadian model, so i checked the CA JVC website and found stuff but not sure what i am looking for. Here are the specs on the laptop.

Its a Hp pavillion dv6000
Windows vista home
AMD athlon 64x 2 dual core processor TK-53 1.70GHz
2750mb ram
32 bit operating system

I also found a potential registry fix, something about windows not enumerating something...i went ahead and did it...still didn't work.

I really don't wanna believe its the camera, I have a feeling its something else really simple.

Anyways, any help would be great on this one.

I have checked out the HM700. It felt great in my hands. It has the clearest and sharpest LCD screen I've seen in a camcorder. (I'm not 100 percent certain because I held the camera for only five minutes, but I felt that I was able to focus without the need for a field monitor.) Most important to me is that the camera is HD and shoots native .MOV files on SD cards which makes work flow much easier when you edit with FCP. And, of course, SD cards cost a lot less than P2 and SxS cards.

My one concern is horizontal resolution. I started to notice this feature in cameras after I read the Videomaker review of the Panasonic AG-HPX170. The review said: "The actual horizontal resoution of the HPX170 is a little disappointing, coming in at a mere 650 lines. Other similarly-priced camcorders come in between 800 and 1,000." I think this is important because the quality difference would probably be noticed by anybody watching your production on a 52-inch HDTV, for example.

The problem is that the specs on this camera (and others) don't give you horizontal resolution. How is a consumcer supposed to compare producds if you don't have the numbers?

Has anybody worked with the HM700 and can you please provide your opinion of the camera? Also, please discuss the issue of horizontal resolution.

I have been a JVC fan for years I bought my last JVC product I will every buy a JVC MG335. I bought this camera about a year ago and with all the problems I have had with the POOR Cyberlink software that comes with it did not use it much. I have had more time on my hand lately so I started playing around with it again. After MANY emails to customer service with JVC and Cyberlink I have found out they are not much help if any!!!!!!!! Basically JVS just blow me off. Cybelink set me s link to other software then what came with the camera but it is not much better if any. I get errors all the time and I have tried it on two different computers with the same operating system XP Pro and get the exact same errors.

I understand about JVC format and was wondering what is a GOOD software that will work with this camera that I will be able to change the format so I do not have to use the VERY POOR Cyberlink software to play it back. Right now I can play it with other software like Windows Media Player and others but do not have any sound. The only way I can play it back and have sound is to use the POOR Cyblerlink software.

I want to be able to burn DVDs so I can give them to friends and family and they will be able to play them and have sound with out having to use Cyberlink software to do it.
Thanks

Ok I have a gig to film on saturday and this camera isn't working so hot right now with FCP. I just bought it on Sunday so i'm still learning.

Here's my problem. When I'm capturing it keeps splitting up my clips into smaller ones, and it's also not capturing all of the footage. Very unreliable at this point.

I shot some test footage in HD720/24P Can someone please let me know the settings I should be using.

I also exported the footage that I got in MP4 format with a H264 conversion. The quality didn't really look much better then my DVX100 and the audio was off. But it wasn't off in my timeline. I'm over my head with this camera. Need to shoot on Saturday and I'm freaking out.

Any advice would be awesome.

Hello, I've recently purchased the HM100, a super little camera and am having a bit of trouble understanding the best method for exporting the clips to an external drive. I shot the footage in MP4 mode on the camera since I'm a PC user. I can use the XDCAM software from an EX1 to manage the footage. Within the software it allows me to use either: MXF for NLE's (N), MXF for XDCAM HD (X), MXF for XDCAM HD422 (D), Raw DV (R), AVI DV (A) Avid AAF (V), Windows Media and a few others. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the best format is to export onto an external drive and hand off to an editor who's using Final Cut Pro? Again the clips were shot in MP4 format.

Thanks!

I'm very excited about potentially upgrading to this camera. I've narrowed my search between the GYHD200 and the Canon XL-H1a. I'm currently using a DVX100. so i'm thinking this will be a pretty big step.

A few questions.... When I'm searching this camera on B&H there a lot of different model numbers that I cant seem to understand. there's the GYHD200, GYHD200U, GYHD200BXT for example. What do all these numbers mean. Is this just the package kit that B&H offers or are these upgraded model numbers?

Is this camera a lot harder or even impossible to get pretty decent movable shots? IE walking with the camera and following a subject. I use a smaller camera now with the fig rig and my shots are pretty steady. Just curious.......

I hear the that the battery life isn't good. I plan on buying the anton bauer batteries... I couldn't find anywhere how long the battery lasts....

I watched a great video on vimeo about the HM700 series. In this video the recommended the canon 14x lens over the Fujinon. There currently isn't a kit for the HD200 with the canon lens at B&H so i'm thinking if I went this route I might have to piece everything together.

I know, a lot of questions... But i'm excited to get some answers.

I have a JVC Everio (GZ-MG155U) hard disk (miniature sized) camcorder that has excellent SD video quality and a bunch of other useful features, only that it has no microphone input. My dad has engineering experience and maybe able to fix this. All we're trying to do tap into the camera's internal microphone wiring and add an RCA jack without dissassembling the entire thing.

Does anyone know of any articles on how to do this with my camcorder, or any tips on getting to the onboard microphone without tearing everything apart?

I just wanted to check with all of you JVC Everio's HHD camcorders if is normal for the camera to get warm and hot since it has a harddrive instead of using tapes. I just started using my to video things and each time the camera is very warm or hot. Is the normal for it to do?

Hi. I am an absolute beginner in terms of video. I was lucky
enough to land the JVC GY-HD110 for my first camera (the university bought it
for me) but I am overwhelmed. I do not yet have a tape but do have an SD Card.
I cannot get it to switch over to record on the SD Card. Can anyone provide
some insight on this?

MsoNormal - Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I have a JVC GZ-HD7AA and I am a complete novice video recorder and editor - I have shot and then downloaded to my external hard drive a number of unedited videos - I have the Adobe Premiere Elements 4 editing program which I thought should be OK. First problem is it doesn't recognise .tod files. So I research and downloaded a trial version of AVS converter, and then purchased the Tipart Mod Converter program, both of which state they convert .tod to mpeg + heaps of other file extensions. I have trialled both programs and they both seem to successfully convert to .mpeg or whatever I ask. But A.Premiere always states ünsupported format or damaged file."One of the necessary components may not have been installed" - I don't know what to do - I have found a few references to .tod conversions but they only confuse me. Neither conversion programs answer my "Help"emails -

I hope the solution is something very basic that I'm not doing and I really hope someone may be kind enough to help me through this problem.

I eagerly await a reply.

I just went to a JVC HZ-HD30 hard drive type camera to record
several hours of video without taking a break. More than the 1 hour
tapes. This camera is basically useless. See,,,,, its formatted in
Fat32. So guess what? Right, the files cant be anything over 19mins in
length or about 4gb. You have to drop them in the editing software and
they don't sync up. There is a glitch. Fortunately I had a separate
sound recording device that saved my arse and I was able to layer in a
splice right under the sound that dropped out when the "new" file was
created.

So what the hell is it good for? And why would any
manufacturer make a camera like this? Are all hard drive cameras
formatted in fat32? No, it cant be reformatted in NTFS either by camera or by computer.

19 minute files, are you kidding me?

Â

Anyone?

I have a JVC MG-155U camcorder with a menu function ("DIS") that stabalizes the picture. I also know that digital stabalization (which many editors have) involves loss in resolution.

I would like to know if my camera does this digitally with a quality loss, or does it use some type of mechanical stabalizer?

On a impulse I purchased the GZ M200 after looking at it with the rep at a local Best Buy. I did buy it on Amazon later and am now wondering...... I thought I would be able to use the SD cards to download the video to my PC or Mac rather than connect the camera. After reading the manual, there is no mention of this method and indicates only way is to connect GZ M200 to the PC or Mac.

I also do not have a BR burner although I do have an HDTV and BR Player. I see that one can create HD DVDs using the standard DVD but, because of the size, there is a limit to how much you can record to the DVD. Again, I thought that using a DL DVD would allow you to add a longer video to the disk, but have not been able to confirm that.

Another concern is that I am moving to a Mac and the provided software is Windows only. I could use it on XP under Parallels and I do have Nero and Roxio products for editing and burning. I am getting Toast Titanium and the BR Plug-in for the Mac, and I believe I can use this to download the video files from the GZ HM200. I believe iMovie 09 will also do this.

Can anyone confirm that I can use the GZ HM200 as stated above and comment on the use of a SD Card Reader to download the movie files versus downloading from the GZ HM200? Does the GZ HM200 configure the video files in some way as it downloads to the PC ? Mac?

Thanks...

Im a 63 yr old analog guy just getting into digital.  Have purchased a hd7 and am wondering if i can take dv out of this camcorder, run it through my analog to digital converter and then edit ???  My ADS converter has a dv input !

Also wondering if i can take svhs off camcorder and convert to digital(mpeg) to edit in VS9.

Last question,Which would give me better quality video,DV or svhs.   The reason for doing this is i cannot handle hd with my cheap set up and upgrading my computer is not an option !  I am using a panasonic svhs camera now and need to know if converted DV would be any better ?
