My Panasonic HDC-HS100 video clips come out as m2ts files. ( I use the included software to transfer files to my laptop ) When I use my Roxio Creator 2009 to convert the file to AVI, there's often a video clip with no audio. Aggravating as HELL !!! Panasonic says that it is a common problem with 3rd party software. It's basically hit or miss when I convert to AVI....there's no predicting when a file will be screwed up !!! Panasonic says to use their program & create an MPEG2 file ,then have Roxio convert it. Will MPEG2 to AVI be a lower quality file ?

Is there ANY program that will take the Panasonic HD file & successfully convert it to AVI the first time ?

Does anyone here own a Panasonic AG-HMC40? If so, I was wondering how you'd compare it to other camcorders as far as video quality. I ordered one recently and have yet to recieve it so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I've always wanted a decent 3 chip HD camera with pro manual controls. I own two cameras that are three chip that I've aquired through the years; the Sony VX2000 and the Sony FX7. Unfortunately I've been dissappointed with the quality of video of both these cameras but recently I bought the 2009 Canon HG-20 and was blown away. It only has one CMOS chip but the video quality is nothing short of breathtaking. I've been reading recently about Panasonic and the fact that they are producing some high quality HD cameras as well. That's why I decided to purchase the Panasonic AG-HMC40 Camcorder. If anyone here has one and can let me know what you think about it, thanks in advance.

I am ready to invest in a camera, I am vacillating between these two cameras. I was drawn to the 150 because the price is very reasonable and is there a big difference in image quality between the two ACVHD or DVCPRO HD, student - focus is documentary (possible narrative on the side)

I was curious if anyone has used the panasonic Ag HMC70U.

Almost everyweek someone on these forums asks what camera to buy and I ran across this unit on B&H (link below). It has tapeless workflow, 3CCD, and XLR inputs all for $1695.00 which is a lot of what people are looking for so I was curious what people thought about it.

Hello everyone,
I'm heading out on a 3 week shooting time, and the HMC40 and higher than consumer-tech video is new to me, including my HMC40. I shoot nearly all high speed action footage, and these next few weeks will be mostly shot with great sunlight a the dunes, desert, rock crawling, etc. I typically like to incorporate slow motion into my edited video, so my initial thought is to shoot in 720/60p. Is this the correct thinking? Or, should I be shooting in 1080/60i? I've been told that if shooting for slow motion, use a shutter speed of 1/120 in 720/60p, and 1/60 pretty much no matter what in 1080/60i. To me, based on my experience with my D300 still camera, those shutter speeds are only helpful if I'm wanting to blur the image slightly, or the wheels/tires spinning when panning, but is this different for a camcorder?
Then, my next question is what format to export using Adobe Premier CS4 for use primarily for youtube? I want the best format possible for the cleanest, best looking video on Youtube. Is there a format that YouTube won't compress, such as if I export using f4v or flv, for example? And, if so or not, what codec, bitrate, size, etc would you recommend for optimal playback on youtube?
Secondly, given the above, I'll also want to put this footage on DVD for my customers to use a sale/marketing pieces. Will this play a role as to what format to be shooting in, or do I just pick the best format for the web, then just output it the way it needs to be for the DVD after outputting the footage for the web?
Thanks in advance for the help...

Just got the cam and so far seems great. Wondering if others who have it might answer me 2 questions:

1. Do you record first onto the internal then the SD or vice versa?

2. Do you recommend buying the 2nd battery as another small one (same as what came with) or upgrading to the larger very expensive one?

Thanks.

Hey, I own a Panasonic AG-HVX200. Somebody asked me this today, and made me curious...

With this camera, of course there is a manual zoom mode, which allows free movement of the zoom ring for quick snap-zooms. But also, when you set it to Servo, you are still able to manually zoom with the ring, it's just a little stiffer. The question is, does it harm the mechanics of the zoom lens to operate it by the ring when its set to Servo Zoom mode?

Hello :
I have just purchased an external mic (audiotechnika AT897) for my camcorder Panasonic gs230.

In front of these elements I realized I cannot put the mic on my camcorder due to the incompability between the mic support and the camcorder bracket.

I'd like to know if someone has an idea in order to put the mic on the camera ?
I've seen on ebay some external brackets which could be a great solution but the format is exactly the same as the camcorder bracket...

How to do then ?
All ideas are welcome ... thanks

My Panasonic HDC-HS100 camcorder has it's own software to transfer video files....they come out as m2ts files. Roxio Creator 2009 will automtically convert it to some mpeg format before I can edit it or burn it to disc.

For some SICK reason, one file out of several will end up with NO audio.....usually the first file out of the bunch.
( all video clips recorded the same day will end up in one folder ). I know that when I change the extension to AVI, I can play the file on my Sony laptop ( Vista/32 bit ).....so, it seems that the original file's audio is OK. Since I changed the extension, the file is basically unusable now, you can just play it, you can't drag it into Roxio.....I still have the original m2ts file of course. Playing from the camera to a monitor displays no problem with the audio & video. I don't get it.....why would just the first clip be corrupt ??
I could still use Panasonic's software to burn directly from the camera to my laptop, but it takes quite a while & I need a dual layer disc for 90 mins. of original video.
This has happened with 90 min to 120 min. video shoots.....which yield several video clips automatically. It didn't seem to be a problem with 2 min. clips.
Re-cap: The original ( 30 min. ? ) video file file seems OK, but, Roxio seems to convert this one clip without audio....where could the problem be ???? It was suggested that I record a short video clip first before the actual recording so "that" practice piece of video will end up with no audio instead of the important footage.

I am currently making a crane that I will mount my GS320 which will have a small monitor down near the fulcrum so I can see what is on screen. Since the camera is going to be ~5' away from me, I will obviously need to use a remote device to zoom and operate the menu. I was wondering if there is anyway I can dismantle the remote that came with this camera (Model # N2QAEC000021) and make a box with various controls on it, such as zoom, play, rewind, etc. An example of the type of box I am talking about can be seen in the picture included in this post.

Hi: This is my first attempt in contacting the FORUM. My prpoblem:

Can anyone tell me how I can couple into the AUDIO.VISUAL/S VIDEO OUTPUT TERMINAL for the purpose of monitoring the sound whilst recording? This is essential when using multiple mics. Have missed out on many good efforts due to poor connections in the cable connections. Not known until PLAYBACK!

The supplied MULTI CABLE is basically for DVD or VCR Dubbing - but tapping the 'audio line' to headphones works - but very awkward to use.

Is there a dedicated CABLE for HEADPHONE use available. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Recently, the LCD cable on my Panasonic PVGS-35 camcorder wore in to, and I'd like to know if this would be something that I could easily fix myself? Also, where could I buy this part from other than Panasonic?

I called Panasonic about the problem, but it would cost me close to what I paid for it new for them to fix it. So, if I can find the part to fix it I'm going to try and do it myself. I'm not sure if the part I'm looking for is called an LCD ribbon cable or not? It's the tiny cable that comes from inside the camera connecting to the LCD. It is very thin, too! It had a black protective coating over it and it flaked off and I can see the thin brown ribbon cable worn in to.

I believe I can fix it easily myself and am willing to try. If I can't fix it then I guess I'll just have to go with another brand of camcorder for my next purchase! Panasonic's lower-end camcorders feel like toys!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and take care

Hi all I am back again. Just got this cam and I am still learning it. My big question is the stock charger that comes with it says 330 min. for a full charge. Does anyone know if this charger senses the charge in the battery and compensates with a shorter charge time?

Also could I use another Pansonic charger, has identical numbers as far as input and output and the same lug setup for the battery same mount style. I do not know pinout though and was curious if there were any way of finding this out. I could really use another charger so I can charge up 2 batteries at once.

Thanks

Has anyone used the Panasonic AG-HMC70?  It's a 1080i AVCHD shoulder mounted cam that records to SDHC cards.  It also has XLR inputs and BNC out.  For the price ($2100) it looks like it might be a good entry HD camcorder.  Just wondering if anyone had used it.

I've been on the phone for hours with Sony & Panasonic with dead end results. My new Vaio FW laptop with Vista business cannot even detect a firewire connection from my Panasonic PV-DV910.(10 years old ) I'm trying to use Windows Movie Maker. From what I've seen in various forums & research, I'm probably "SOL" & either have to buy a new camcorder or settle for working with a PC with XP..........what a drag. Any suggestions ?

Thanx..............I'll just sit on the curb & cry.

My original plan was to get a an HVX as my primary camera and then a Cannon XHA1 as backup. But then a google search led me to prices as low as $2,700 for an HVX200A. Which would make it about the same price as the XHA1. Does anybody have experience with there lower price tags? There's got to be a catch, right?

I currently have a Panasonic pV-GS35 Mini DV camcorder.  I use Adobe Premire Elements to edit some home movies. We purchased the combo Photoshop/Elements package.  I have abut 35 - 40 tapes downloaded to my (Very large Drives)

I am thinking about buying a new Camcorder with a hards drive. But I cannot find anthing about downloading from the Panasonic sdr-h40 to adobe premire elements 5.

I have found information the tells me the files are MOA & MOI formats and not compatable with adobe.  I have been told the camera will allow you to select how to save the files.Â

I am pretty sure using my current set up they are loaded to the computer as .AVI files.Â

I just want everything to be the same.

SO can someone recomend a harddrive camcorder they have done this with.

First off, thank you very much for looking at my post.  I am going to be starting a project that is shot entirely against green screen.  I'm wondering if anyone has experience  shooting with the ag-dvx100 and getting a good key?  If so, I would much appreciate any tips, warnings, etc. that you could pass on.

Hey everybody, Im new to the forum and need some advice. I have the option to purchase both a DVX-100B used at a relatively good price and a DVC80 at probably a better price. I'm going to film school in a couple months at full sail here in orlando. I like to make shorts (simple) and shoot wakeskating videos as well as the occasional product demonstration or advertising video, just to explain my needs in a camera. I have used the DVX-100B an love the features and professional feel and operation of the camera. How do the two compare in features, overall use, and quality? Any info is great.Â

Thanks
