A scene in my current narrative short film takes place in a library, with the book title spines visible and legible. Is this fair use if the books are not the subject of the film but part of the background and location?

Thanks in advance,

I saw a demo today of a wedding. They did a technique of doing a 360 deg around a cake table. They also "floated" up the church aisle. Every shot look so smooth.

How did they do this? Every time I take my camera off of a tripod I am shaky! Is it just experience (upper body strength :)) or is there some fancy product they are using?

Hi all,

I am working on a project which will center around me reciting monologues, telling stories and generally ad-libbing to the camera. I'm looking for some advice on production techniques that will keep the visuals fresh and engaging as it will just be me in the picture, probably against an infinity curve for up to 5 minutes at a time.

What can I do to make the video interesting enough that people stay engaged visually while listening to my material?

I'll be shooting this in my small apartment with a simple shotgun mic and a digital video camera, nothing fancy, but I am hoping I can create something that looks professional and polished.

Many thanks

Hello; i'm shooting a car interior, front two seats with two subjects during the day and wanted to know what kind of light would suffice. Obviously, there's the sun but this isn't enough as it constantly moves throughout the day and of course, the car interior provides a lot of shadows.

As we're going to be out in the field would certain battery powered LED's or flourescents be powerful enough during the day to add some consistent illumination to the face?

Also, I was thinking of purchasing the Black and Decker Electromate 400 amp for power... would this be enough power to (if I had to) use one lowel light (preferably the Omni Light, 120v / 500 watts)?

thanks for your time!

Not long ago a member was looking for info on how to shoot a live theatrical performance. He got some really good advice, but sometimes it's just better to 'see' how something should look than to just read about it.

Here's a video by Ian Lucero discussing how he shot a live dance performance. He gives some good tips on what to do to round out your shot list so you'll have plenty to work with during post.

I recently edited a TV special on the Australian National Junior
Motocross Competition. In the program they interviewed the current
world champion in the 85cc class. While were promised a series of
photos showing him with his winning bike and trophy… they never arrived.

So at the eleventh hour I had to quickly make a graphic to end the
scratch this is a tutorial showing what i came up with…

hi guys, I am a beginner in video. I had a question about PAL and NTSC formats.. I have a project that i will shoot in a region where PAL is used. However, I will need to bring the footage back home and then release it in USA in NTSC format. I will be doing 1080p 24p Native for "cine look"..

Will I need to convert anything?? I believe NO, because I will be recording in 24fps, and that is different from PAL and NTSC. so it should not matter. However, I could be wrong and I have not considered anything except the fps.

Please let me know how to resolve the issue, if it is actually an issue..

THANKS!

I am trying to upload my old analog 8mm tapes to my PC using the RCA connections on my TV-in/tuner card. It all seems to be going well, but I find that I am getting some distortion or interference on the uploaded file. As I watch it upload, on the camera the image is fine, but on the computer there is some interference, the best way to describe it is like when the old tv stations on an antenna would go in and out angled lines on the image. What would cause this? Is there any way to get rid of it?

On another note, is there any way to clean up the images, or make them clearer? I can only upload as a WMV (I am using Windows Movie Maker to capture), I would prefer AVI. If I convert to AVI afterwards, will the picture improve? I want to create DVD's for playback on a television screen & am afraid that the image will be all grainy.

Thanks for the help

I need to be able to do something with backgrounds, but I cannot set up a greenscreen to do it.

The setup:

Talent is in foreground, outdoor settings. Talent is making video content, but it is not possible to have the best background scenes. I need to be able to change the background without having to use a blue/greenscreen.

-------------------

I have some familiarity with masking in Sony Vegas. I do go through a sequence in working with my greenscreen where I make the talent all white and the background all black, etc. I was thinking there might be some way to just extract the talent from the entire video and then place it over a background, or something along those lines.

Problem is it is just not possible do a best background settings in most cases.

With all the technology we have nowadays I believe there has to be a way to alter the backgrounds without using a greenscreen.

I'm not quite sure how to go about it, but I need to figure out some way to just record the talent on the spot. I need to ignore the background and get the video of the subject. Then go into a editing software and take out the background and replace it. The replacement background can be a graphic or other not-so-complex background.

It would be best if I could use some kind of moving virtual background, but I think i could work with gradient that stayed the same throughout the video presentation.

Hope I've explained this well enough.

I was doing a video the other day and the background was just not workable with the subject matter of the video. There was all kinds of junk in the background and it was distracting. The talent just was not in best conditions for explaining the subject matter.

It is possible to get the talent to stand in one place with minimum of movement if necessary. It would be best if course, if the talent could walk in and out of the setting. Regardless, the talent wouldn't be an action figure.

I would sure appreciate some suggestions or workaround ideas for this.

Thanks

I´m an independent TV producer and I´m looking forward to sell my travelling show to a cable TV station. The thing is that I need original music, not the commercial one, but I´d like to know your suggestions about buying it from an online library or producing it with an audio software.

I´m on a tight budget and I know I´d save some $ if I make it but I´d like the quality to be as good as if I´d bought it. Is it possible? I´ve never done it before.

So i just finished watching the 3rd series of the HBO production,
Deadwood and i thought i would have a crack at recreating the opening
title sequence in After Effects. It is not an overly complicated text
effect, however it looks very cool. This is always a cool way to keep

The audience is, of course, of a high school level (9th grade to 12th grade) and quite honestly, I'm very nervous about what type of comedy to put because it needs to be easily accessible and also keep up with the latest internet memes/topics of conversation.

Any ideas, websites, books even? Thanks!!!!

Recently, I posted about achieving dramatic lighting and some problems I was running into. I have been watching many videos with dramatic lighting (part of the face lit up, and the other part in shadow) What I have noticed is that in these videos. The shadow part is BLACK, very smooth and crisp. When I take video, the lit up part of my subjects face is good, but the dark side, is very grainy. How do I achieve this "crisp" distinction between light and dark, this absolute contrast? Do I do it in post, and if so how do I do it?

Next week our small company has a shoot that will be based inside an office building. There are flourescent lights throughout and windows in every office. We are trying to light accordingly but I don't know how to approach it so our video looks consistant in every interview. I have 3 300-500 watt tungsten lights. Should I use all three? avoid windows? any tips would be very helpful.

Hi, I have been reading a lot about three point lighting, and have seen many videos. I want to produce a dramatic effect in a video, where half of my subjects face is visible, while the other half is engulfed in shadow. The problem I run into, is that my pre-edited video does not have that high contrast between shadow and light, what I mean is that while one side of my subjects face is in light, the other side is still somewhat visible and grayish instead of black (what i want to achieve is a high contrast ratio). Is this something that is achieved before editing the video? Or is it a matter of adjusting the levels, in a video editing program? I would really like to know, so I can achieve the best contrast, without having to sacrifice too much quality.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about here is a link of what I want to achieve http://www.vimeo.com/5772798 (look at about the 2:20 mark)

From the Matrix's 'Construct' to Auto Trader's 'Virtural Dealership' to those weenie Mac commercials, the Infinite white background signifies an expensive and professionally made film/video production. Now you too for a fraction of what it would cost the pros can make your own Infinite White Background. Check out this video from Videopia to see how.

I recently got a good deal on a broken JVC GZ-MG505 (3-CCD) camcorder and plenty of discounts on JVC's repair service. Viewing its color performance (camcorderinfo.com), I heard that the Everio GZ-MG505 produces a nice and clear image, but with a neon (over-saturated) color reproduction. Good image with one side effect - the colors are not accurate.

I've heard of filters that will polarize and increase saturation levels. Are there any video filters available that will decrease the saturation level with the apropriate size for my camcorder.

Hey,
So I recently watched a music video by Coldplay called Lovers in Japan.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_exesnCA5Y&feature=PlayList&p=D23D171F324568EC&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=75

I am wondering if anyone has any information on how to reproduce the neon writing in the sky they did in the video. I have scoured everything I can find but to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.
