Has anyone figured out a way to get an HD signal out of AVID Media Composer to display on an HD TV monitor without having to purcse a $7000 piece of hardware. I use Windows XP and two ViewSonic monitors for editing. Would li to see my HD sequence on an HD TV before creating a DVD or other output and while editing. Appreciate any ideas or help with less expensive hardware.

I am editing videos using Final Cut Pro v6, exporting them with video at 48KHZ, then transcoding them to flash using Squeeze; the audio is uncompressed. For some strange reason, when the videos are viewed on PCs, the sound doesn't play out of the PC Speaker. It only plays when you connect headphones or external speakers to the headphone jack. I can't figure out why. One thing I've noticed is that when I change the audio panning in FCP to '0,' I get no sound at all. Thanks for your advice.

Hey Everyone,

We’re going into Pre-Production on the first TV series of Pro Juice and
we need your help. We might be based in Melbourne but we’re looking to
the world for both content and broadcasters. Check out below how you
can be involved.

Animators/Designers/Editors

We’re looking for 12 animated stings to use throughout the series. What
are stings? Well they can be anything you like. But basically they’re
short (2-7 second) animations that we can use between segments to add
some dynamism to the show and to show off the creative work of all you
'guerrilla' producers out there. We don’t mind if its 2D, 3D, stop
motion or cut-out animation. So long as its original, fresh and very
cool.

Music Videos

We’re on the lookout for 6 music videos to feature in the series. So if
you’ve produced/directed/edited/animated a great music video lately, we
want to see it. We want videos with great stories, striking visual
effects, simple ideas or one-shot wonders.

Short Films / Experimental Works

We’re also on the lookout for 6 short films or experimental videos to
feature in the series. So if you’ve produced/directed/edited/animated a
stories, striking visual effects, simple ideas or one-shot wonders…

maxminvideo on "Low light performane of HD camcorders shooting in SD?"

I know that HD camcorders in general require more light than comparable SD camcorders, due to the light being divided up among many more pixels, but what about HD camcorders when shooting in SD mode?

When shooting SD with a HD camcorder are the pixels in someway combined so that the light received by each one is added together to produce more light reception by the lesser amount of combined pixels?

Or when shooting SD are the extra pixels in essence thrown away, so regarding light levels/exposure you get the same as you would shooting HD?

I hope that isn't phrased to idiotically, but to help I'll explain why I'm asking. I shoot live rock shows, so low-light performance is very important. Currently we shoot with SD camcorders, which is fine since 90% of what we produce is for online distribution only. But HD is becoming more and more the norm, and we'd like to produce more content with a high enough quality for DVD distribution or even just higher quality online distribution.

So I'm looking into getting HD camcorders, but at least for times when I know that HD is not required I'm wondering if I can shoot with them in SD mode and get the improved low-light performance that you do from SD cameras?

Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to video production, kinda... Anyway I am starting a wedding videography business and I have a Sony HVR A1u, and a Sony HD1000u shoulder mount. I was wondering if you guys and gals could help me? What are the best types of wireless lavalier mics to buy. My budget is in the $300.00 range? Do I need one to fit in the XLR input in my camera? or is mini stereo okay? I bought the A1U because of the XLR. Any pointer you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hey guys. So, the other day i was making a quick video for my sister (REALLY QUICK! I made it in 40 minutes or so...) on After Effects, and i was working in 3D. Well, the values for my X,Y, and Z axis were huge, about 7 thousand and something... So my question is if those values normal or am i controlling the camera in a wrong way? The way i do it is just to create a Null Object, add the "Separate XYZ" effect to it (So i can control each one individually), and i parent the camera to it. but after some time, working with those inmense numbers get really confusing and frustrating!

So, any tips on how i should control the camera to get smaller values?

Btw, if yall need to see how "far" the camera was moving, here is the video. The language is in portuguese, so i am sorry if yall dont understand it... =D

When I try to capture my HD footage, the first few seconds is invariably left off. I'm trying to just roll the tape and not log each clip individually, because I'm kind of lazy that way.

I have my Clip Settings set on "Create new clip on Start/Stop," but it always takes a couple of seconds while FCP "Searches for new media."

This doesn't happen in SD.

If in Premiere CS4 you right click a clip and select "Replace with After Effects Composition" and it gives you the error "could not connect to after effects," close premiere and after effects, open your task manager and kill all the processes related to adobe:
dynamiclinkmanager.exe
ImporterProcessServer.exe
processcoordinationserver.exe

I've tried to do 5.1 audio in PP but I find it very clumsy. I think someone out there must have figured out this work flow better than I. Because you have to do the source channel mapping before the clips are used in the timeline, I have to put them in the timeline, sync them, export the audio, import the audio, do the source channel mapping, add each channel of the 5.1 then drop the clips into the timeline. Seems kinda like a work around to me. Does anyone know a better way of doing this. Gerry in Calgary.

Hi there, I've been charged with finding and renting a 2nd video camera for a coming production that I am involved in helping out on - our main camera is a JVC GY HD111e and we're looking for a second camera that will be cheap but will be able to be shoulder-mounted & record in HD to miniDV's. I have sent away a few emails to some companies I found in the Yellow Pages and am awaiting a list back from these companies with the available cameras but I'm really just asking for some real-world advice here.

I'm based in the UK and have never rented any video equipment, I would just love some advice or for anyone to share their experiences of renting a camera as I would like to know a little and not be completely ripped off! Have you ever rented and how much did it cost? Did you find any way to squeeze more value out of the rental? Any hints, tips and information would be greatly appreciated. =)

I am looking to purchase a new camcorder that is semi prosumer level. Right now im seriously considering the Sony VX2000 or VX2100. However i feel like these cameras are outdated but i'm probably completely wrong. I was also looking at the Canon HV30 and HV40 but being that these are HD cameras that might cause problems when it comes to the editing. So pretty much it's down to whether or not HD or 3CCD is what i should be looking at. Any advice will help, Thank you so much!

ps. my budget is around $1000 give or take

Hi,

If you are expecting have at least one wedding a month.1- What should be the budget for a camera to be used for weddings video making?

I am intending to buy a not very expensive camera for wedding video making. I want to be able to connect the camera to my Macbook pro and capture with Final Cut Pro or sometimes with Sony Vegas. Final product would be HD video to burn on a DVD.
2- What camera can you suggest?
3- What camera have you got?

Could I add wireless micros to the suggested camera?

I have a Sony DCR-TRV22 which came with ImageMixer. But, once I transfer the videos into that program, I have no clue how to find them, so I can share them with family.

Can someone help me figure out how to get my videos off the Handycam and onto my computer so I can share them?

Thanks bunches! Jules

A scene in my current narrative short film takes place in a library, with the book title spines visible and legible. Is this fair use if the books are not the subject of the film but part of the background and location?

Thanks in advance,

I paid about $900 for this last year and it has been stored in a protective case since then. I would like to purchase other needed equipment for our church. I need $600 for the mixer plus shipping costs. It is in like new condition.

I know from many of the posts in these forums there are usually people looking for cost effective music for their video projects. I got an email from Sony and apparetly they are going to replace Cinescore and they are selling it and the themepacks for 60% off. I just picked up a theme pack to suplement what I already have.

Just thought I would let everyone know. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/cinescore?keycode=64147

I'm going to buy the Canon Vixia hf 200, is this a good camera? My professors at my university recommended it. I only have a $1,000 budget, and I really want to make independent films. Will this camera do the job? Will footage professional like the movies? I plan to to buy a adapter so I can use my shot gun mic through my xlr cable. Also what kind of tripod should I purchase? Again my budget is limited. If anybody has this camera, please help me to answer these question.

How are you guys and gals doing? Newbie here. I have shot many home movies on normal home camcorders(son and daughters sports and performances) and Im kinda tired of the "home movie" look. So my question is, is it worth spending the money on an entry level pro sumer camera? Does the camera alone change the look of the movie or am I going to have to put in hours of post production time on the computer to make it look a little more professional? I dont need it to look like monday night football but it would be nice if it looked a little more quality. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
