Hey Guys,

I recently was given a shure wireless lapel mic. Tested it on PA system it works. Able to sync receiver and mic fine. When I plug the receiver to may Sony Handy Cam, it doesn't capture sound? When I plug receiver into my computer to test it, it doesn't work either? My wired mic works on both camera and computer.

What Am I Missing?

PS. I tried a handheld wireless to the camera and it works fine (able to capture sound)

Thanks,

Hello all, first time poster. I am starting out in wedding videography and my biggest challenge is my audio. I have a Sony VX2100 and a Sony cordless mic. What I dont seem to understand is that I need to plug in the receiver when I want the cordless audio and unplug when I want the camera audio. There must be a better system than this. I have also tried the audio recorder in the grooms pocket, but then I need to dub in post which is sometimes difficult. Any suggestions for my entry level setup?

Thanks all.

Hey guys! I have a Sony HDR-FX7 camera and it doesn't have any XLR inputs in it, it only has a mini plug. I've been looking at the Rode Videomic, and I'm receiving good feedback from it. How about you guys? Do you think that it's a good mic for my camera? And it's only $150 compared to other microphones out there.

Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to video production, kinda... Anyway I am starting a wedding videography business and I have a Sony HVR A1u, and a Sony HD1000u shoulder mount. I was wondering if you guys and gals could help me? What are the best types of wireless lavalier mics to buy. My budget is in the $300.00 range? Do I need one to fit in the XLR input in my camera? or is mini stereo okay? I bought the A1U because of the XLR. Any pointer you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm looking to purchase the Zoom Digital Audio recorder. I heard they do wonders. Does anybody have any advice they could share with me on which one I should buy? I found the H2 for $179.95 and the H4 for $229.95. I'm doing a seminar in early October and would appreciate any feedback on which one to buy. Thanks everyone.

I've recently purchased the JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder a while ago and had a change to test how well it handles signals from an external microphone. It seems that they've implemented some sort of "Auto-gain" that controls the camera's sound system.

I've recently constructed my own simple "shotgun mic" (PVC pipe with wire and mic elements). It seems to record fine into my camcorder, picking up a ton of off-axis noise and sounds like its clipping the on-axis sound. I doubt it's a design problem, because the clipping picks up heavily when someone speaks at a normal tone into the front of the microphone, being approximately 2 - 3 feet away. Are there any workarounds, such as finding a good small mic attenuator. I'm not chasing after anything fancy, just need a small mic level adjuster that fits with a 1/8" miniplug (in and out).

Any advice on where to find a good, small mic attenuator that I can use to get around this issue ($1 - $10 range)? If this doesn't help, are there any other options for a better work-around?

I'm not sure if what I'm looking for is actually available. I'd like to get a wireless adapter for microphones I already use. XLR, 1/8th or both. Basically, I want to be able to plug my mic into a transmitter and plug a receiver in to my camera. Ideally, it would be great to inexpensively turn my SM58 into a wireless mic, but even if I can do it with self-powered lavs it would be helpful!

Thanx so much!

I am using a GL2, and am filming an educational video which will have much of the footage voiced over with narration. Because of this, I filmed the footage so far (2 days worth) with the mic adapter connected to the mic input on the camera, but I did not connect the mic to the adapter (being a complete newbie, I thought for some reason this would be better than having sound generated from the GL2's mic). My question is, with what I have done so far, will I still be able to add the narration (i am using Sony Vegas)? Second question - is it better to film the way I filmed so far, or film with the sound from the GL2's mic?

Looking to buy an audio music maker kind of software
This is for amateur type projects, but I would like to get a pretty good program to start.
Currently, I have the Sony Audio Forge, Sony Vegas Pro 8.0.
I've looked around alot on the web for audio loops and such.
Found alot of stuff, but not really what I'm looking for.
So, I think a Lego type build your own music thing might be the best go for me.
I have been looking at Music Maker 15 by Magix and Sony Acid (not pro version).
The Sony Acid is supposed to be easy to learn with all the tutors and such.
Both programs I mentioned are about the same in price.

I am not a musician or anything close, but with pre-built blocks of music I can probably work through building some decent loops... I would think. LOL

I will also look into any opensource software as well.

I Sure would appreciate any input or suggestions.

If I put a mono microphone (which most are) into the stereo mic jack on a camcorder, won't sound only be recorded on one channel (i.e., come out of one ear when played back)? If that's correct, how do I correct that? I know Radio Shack and other stores sell mono-to-stereo adapters. Would that work or is there a better solution?

I've been out of video production for 15 years and am getting ready to jump back in with an HD camcorder purchase, but one of my absolute "must haves" is the ability to feed the camcorder with the "line out" of an audio mixing board for some studio work. What is not clear to me is if the microphone input jack (such as on a Canon HF20) is compatible with the normal line levels from an audio device, or will it only work with microphones?

Hello All,

I've encountered a puzzling problem as of late. I record city council meetings, utilizing a cheap wireless mic setup - an Audio Technica PRO88 VHF transmitter and receiver. Often times, I get a half-second buzz tone in 5-second intervals. Everything else is clean, but every five seconds, there is a very short buzz that lasts a half-second.

The wireless mic is running on batteries and my camera is as well - nothing is plugged into an electrical outlet.

Any ideas, besides "buy a real UHF wireless system". :-) Thanks in advance!

I am shooting a conference next week in Salt Lake City and am looking for some advice on sound recording. I am basically a one-man operation, and will be using a Panasonic DVX-100 for video and audio recording. I use Sennheiser wireless lavs for the speakers at the podium - and the results are great. Problem is, there are going to be about 100 audience members who will be participating in a sort of "group discussion" moderated by a speaker at the podium. What is the best way to capture audience questions/responses as well as the speakers using the two xlr channels on the dvx? I have two wireless lavs, a wireless omni, and a shotgun at my disposal, with I know I could have audience members speak into a stationary mic, but the organizers think this would limit the spontaneous interaction that they want from this segment of the conference. Only other thing I can think of is to have someone walk around with a wireless boom and point at the audience, except that I don't have a crew and this would require entrusting the audio outcome to someone who has no knowledge of sound recording whatsoever. Any creative suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to start shooting a short on the 19th of this month. I did some testing for a fight scene in the short. The problem I'm finding is that ACTUAL PUNCHING SOUNDS don't really work well for punching sound effects.

I believe that this kind of stuff is less than 50% what you see, and the rest is what you HEAR. Anyone on here have any hints or ideas as to how I can go about getting
realistic-sounding punching, kicking, slamming, or other violent fight-scene type sounds?

Here is a clip of a test I did last night - this test was to determine if I wanted to shoot 24p - As you can hear, the sound FX leave something to be desired...

I have a question on my Canon HF 200 if anyone is familiar with it. I wanted to connect headphones to it to listen to my talent, but it only seems to work in Dual shot or taking photos mode. It won't work in movie mode though which I found strange. I wanted to capture that cinematic look and shoot with 24 fps, but it just doesn't allow me to listen in on headphones in movie mode though. It does work great in the other two modes just fine. Any suggestions would be great.

Hello Videomaker community

I been having a problem with audio in which its heard very differently than the way I wanted to be heard (in different computers and televisions) I know there will always be a slight difference between equipment I play my projects in, but I was wondering, how exactly should audio be edited in the NLE so my audience could hear exactly what I want them to hear? Usually the audio is heard more higher or more lower than the way I heard it in the editing process. I have used external computer speakers, the build-in computer speakers and headphones, but none of them give me that precise idea of how the final audio will be heard.
How do you edit your audio? Do you use any external audio monitors or another equipment?

NOTE: This question refers to the post-production process only, none about the production audio problems. I have been using the build in mic of the camcorder and the raw audio footage is in good condition.

Here's a tut for making voice sound like it has been recorded down an old telephone line. It shows how to do it in Final Cut Pro but you could take the knowledge and apply it in any Video or Audio editing software.

So, in a small complex saying and description of what i am trying to do: I do event video productions like stage plays, dance recitals, and others. For these shows, when i put them on dvd, they are "stereo sound boring" to what i want to do. i would like to record in multiple channel audio and in production be able to produce to DVD a widescreen production with true 5.1 surround sound for all my customers with the ability to also select stereo sound if on a regular television. Equipment I do have is 2 older pro-sumer cameras with single channel XLR x 2 per camera. A total of 4 channels. Is there a better way of recording without using both cameras?

Can I get advice on tips or tricks on how to record and produce true 5.1 audio tracks and what equipment do i need to use?

I play in a bagpipe band and the lads have asked me if there's any way we can get a live audio/video recording of the band either at an outdor performance, or during an indoor practice. Needless to say, the pipes are rather shrill. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to mic up about 4-7 pipers, a snare drum and bass drum?
