I saw a Videomaker Short Video Contest Call For Entries on this website, but on closer inspection, I noticed it was for 2008. I tried searching for a 2009 Videomaker Contest but couldn't find anything. Is Videomaker no longer doing a Short Video Contest?

Doc Sniper -

My skepticism comes from a couple of places:

1) The videos on your site - From what I can view (and that is very little - most just hang there) they seem very amateurish - Sort of the worst of YouTube.

2) I distrust any type of contest (at least from a startup, as opposed to a recognized film fest) where there are entry fees - it seems to be more of like a raffle or lottery instead of a true contest.

I appreciate your defense of your site, however, you should consider a) improving the tech behind it (so I can at least view the vids) and b) possibly waiving entry fees until you have established it as a legit venue to show one's work and have it judged appropriately.

Just MHO.

Hello,

The advantage of posting information to forums is that you have the opportunity to receive open and honest feedback, however at the same time we are determined to defend any criticism that we feel makes inaccurate claims.

I though it was important that we let you know that docsniper.com is most certainly not a scam but we definitely understand your scepticism, we're cynics ourselves, especially given the reputation that the internet has for less than honest business practice. So I though I'd let you know a little bit about where we are coming from.

We are a small agency operating out of the Gold Coast, Australia. The site's concept is the brainchild of our director who aims to run the site as a business that offers a place to foster and reward talent in the online film and video community.

If you are still sceptical, we are willing to put you in touch with the winners of our first contest (who are U.S. based) because it is really important to us that we resist the potential to be labelled suspicious.

Thanks,

The team from Doc Sniper.

Plus, who wants cold hard cash? Soft warm money is much more pleasant.
Thse scams crack me up. Actually, so do many festivals and Telly Awards. Ever met anyone who entered the tellys and didn't win anything?? lol then when ya "win" it's just $275 for the trophy.
nice.
still, you'll see em proudly displayed at every low to mid level production house in the nation. Right next to the chamber of commerce certificate.

Hey there,

We’ve got a new website up and running that you may be interested in.

http://www.docsniper.com is a site that runs monthly themed film competitions.

Basically you upload your films into the contest each month, cross your fingers that yours is voted the best….and win the jackpot!

We’ve had our first winners announced so there is proof that we put our money where our mouth is. Check them out at http://www.docsniper.com and if you think you can do better then get entering!

This months theme is Red, as long as your film or video has something red in it, you can enter.

Too easy,

In my search on the internet, it's hard to find websites that have very complete lists of video contests and festivals. Vidopp.com has the best list for video contests which is why we use their RSS feed to display contest info. For festivals this site has a decent amount of content: http://www.filmfestivals.com/htm/deadlines.shtml. You can also try doing a google search for video contests and film festivals.

So, I have seen the little box of upcoming events below the recent thread box, but I have also seen several members post event that aren't already listed on this website. I would like to know where the best place to find upcoming festivals and contests is. I don't currently have a project ready to ship but I am working on one so I would like to be able to keep tabs on what things are coming up when I do.

I live in Nashville, so there isn't a whole lot around me, and so I am willing to travel, I just don't know where to find the things. Thanks guys.

 Dear All,

We’re launching a new contest to promote the “Made in Italy” shoes brand to the entire world! The Italians know they have some of the best shoes in the world, but we want to see how people outside Italy perceive their shoes.

This contest is promoted by ANCI, the Italian Footwear Manufacturers' Association, which includes more than 750 Italian shoe companies. The slogan by ANCI is “I Love Italian Shoes”. Therefore, it must capture the essence of Italian quality, innovation, design, culture, and history--the values that distinguish Italy’s fashion and way of life.

The contest is hosted by Zooppa, a space for social advertising through user-generated content.

The prize is 4000$.

The competition is now open! You have until February 26 to participate with your ideas! Here is the brief in the attachment. Check the link for more details http://www.zooppa.com/contests/i-love-italian-shoes/brief

Rootclip.com is currently seeking filmmakers who can complete the film we are making called Chance Encounter. The last Rootclip film we produced called Good Luck is being shown at the Traverse City Film festival this August.

We wouldn't expect anybody to work for free, so for this film, Rootclip is giving away a $2,000.00 Cash Grand Prize, and each chapter winner will receive a $250 VISA Gift Card, Balance Beam from Trig Industries, Retail Value $249.50, a "Video for the Web" training DVD by VASST, Retail Value $80, and The DV Rebel's Guide: An All-Digital Approach to Making Killer Action Movies on the Cheap by Stu Maschwitz, Retail Value of $44.99.

If you are new to Rootclip, here's the basic concept. We create a short video clip or "Rootclip" to start the story. You watch our video, then shoot your own rendition of what should happen next in less than 2 minutes. Once you've created your video, upload it to Rootclip.com during the submission period and compete for votes against the videos from other users. Gain the highest percentage of user and judge votes during the voting period and your video becomes the next chapter in the story.

It's easy, and most importantly, it's a lot of fun.

Enter the contest today or check out the new film today at Rootclip.com - http://www.rootclip.com

Can you use royalty free content, music or elements in the commercial, like Digital juice, motion loops, or action backs? The rules say "Public domain" but do not mention royalty free content.
