Aspyrider,

If you have stock footage to sell, I would recommend pond5.com. You can create an account, upload footage for free (provided it meets specifications), and then anyone in the world can buy your footage for a price you set. Pond5 gets 50% of the profit and you get 50%. I just started uploading some of my footage. They also have a great interactive flash footage-previewer they call a "widget." You can customize with your clips and then embedd it in your own website. I have one embedded on my website if you want to see it (www.sdgstudio.net/stock.aspx)

I would appreciate any critiqueing of my footage.

I'm just on my way over to check out yours. I'll let you know what I think.

While I negotiated a heavily discounted flat fee, I'm getting good credit and visibility, a copy of the end product, ability to use their clips in my marketing, and most importantly, the opportunity to work with them in the future.

Hello,

I am working as a researcher on season two of the Spike TV series MANSWERS, basically a late night cable show that provides humorous but factual answers to trivia questions of interest to males aged 18 to 35. We are currently producing a segment entitled "How to defuse a bomb," in which we compare and contrast how bombs are defused in real life and in the movies, and a segment entitled "World's most dangerous fish" in which we compare the giant snakehead to other fish that are capable of killing humans. I am writing to see if any Videomaker members might have the following footage available to license to us:

Giant snakeheads in the wild, underwater, "walking" on land, fighting while being pulled into a boat by fishermen, close-ups showing its scary teeth, etc. Basically we are looking for anything that visually tells the story of how nasty the giant snakehead really is.

Close-up views of guy in bomb squad suit working on bomb by hand, people using remote controls to operate bomb robots, bomb robot using robotic arm to defuse/shoot/blow up bomb, bombs being blown up, either in open or in containment barrels, and any other footage with lots of gadgets or gizmos used to defuse a bomb, and people using them. We are of course prepared to pay a reasonable fee to license the footage (usually around $20 per second of footage actually used in the show.) Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and as we are on deadline for the end of this week (Friday June 6tth) I would appreciate hearing from you at your earliest convenience!

Please help! I'm an amateur wildlife videographer who's never sold or licensed any video clips. I have excellent footage of gila monsters in the wild -- an animal that is rarely sighted. I was recently approached by an established nonprofit education company that wants to use some of my footage in their material and is willing to pay a fee. But because they are nonprofit, they say their budget is limited. I have no idea what to ask for or what is reasonable. The videos are posted all over the web -- YouTube, Blip.TV, Revver, etc. but can be accessed from www.judykennedy.com/gilamonsters.htm if you'd like to take a look. They'd probably want to use the uncompressed .avi tape footage of which I have hours, I don't know. (It was shot with a Canon ZR200 digital camcorder.) I have not spoken with them yet (just received an email) and do not want to until I have a better feeling for what is customary in these kinds of negotiations. I hope someone can help me or refer me to a resource that can. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I know there should be editing software that will extract from a DVD, but I don't know what it is. I have handled this 2 different ways.

1. I have some software called DVDfab that will copy, extract, convert any DVD to an Mpeg file, IPOD format, PSP, etc. That is one way to extract. www.dvdfab.com

2. Another, rather low tech and easy way is to play the disk in a DVD player and run RCA cables out to your camcorder, record on the camcorder while the DVD is playing, and then capture from your camcorder back into your PC. I know there should be some loss with this, but I can't really detect it.

I hope someone has a better answer for you, because I'm curious as well.

Good Luck,

I would hook your camera or deck to the DVD player. Press play on the DVD player and record to miniDV tape. Then capture the miniDV tape.

You can also download handbrake. it allows you to rip the DVDs. It takes long though.

Have you looked into some of the microstock photography sites? shutterstock takes footage and some of the others do as well.

FootageFirm is excellent. You might also take a look at www.FuzionFilms.com

Their website is drab, but the buyout library is pretty good and a great value.
