New here in these forums and playing catchup-I just watched the show for the AG-HMC150.

So I downloaded the sample footage then logged and transfered into FCP. And I found out a couple of interesting things. First, FCP defaults to ProRes 422 for the AVCHD transcoding, and second, the max bitrate is 17.4 MB/sec. Now in the show, it's stated the camera goes up to 24 MB/sec., but averages 21 MB/sec. for PH mode (highest available on camera). If the camera avergaes 21 MB/sec., why are we stuck with ProRes 422, why can't we use ProRes 422 HQ? We cannot change this in FCP's log and transfer window. Was the sample footage recorded at 17.4 MB/sec? I would hope that ProRes HQ would be an option to gain those few more precious MB/sec., but it looks like without an option to choose , FCP throws out 3.6 MB/sec. of data (at least) when transcoding the AVCHD files. Does anyone know otherwise? Is there something(s) I missed?

Panasonic has given Videomaker the scoop on the HMC-150, and we thought it would be selfish to keep it to ourselves. So we're going to be doing a live review of the first HMC-150 in the USA on Tuesday August 19th, at 11am pacific / 2pm eastern.

We're taking it out for a test drive this week, and will report our impressions live at http://www.videomaker.com/live.

There will be footage from the HMC-150 to download, and the chat room will be active, so if you have a question about the HMC-150's functions or features, join the live show and we'll try to answer it for you right there.

Hope to see you at the show,

Editor-in-Chief

P.S. If you can't make the live show, the review will be looping on our channel afterwords at: videomaker.com/live

(The only post I could find in the forums here was over a year old and recommended the Tricaster Unit.)

I'm looking for a good system to place live events that I film on the net. This is a total green area to me so I'm getting ideas from anyone that has done it before. I edit in Adobe so to use the version they have would be nice but I'd like to have the most effcient unit/software to work with.

Thank you,

I am using a Mac. I am only seeing that Sony Vegas is available for PC's. Is this correct?

You might consider investing in Sony's latest version of Vegas. It has multiple camera switching and recording built-in to the software. If you're already using firewire for your cameras, Vegas might be all you're missing to do exactly what you're referring to.

Hello,

I need assistance on getting the right live video production set-up. Currently we are running two Canon XL cameras on tripods (covering two angles.) They are used to film a speaker on stage. I would like to run the two cameras into a video switcher and feed that onto a hard drive. Once the recording is complete I would import the saved data into Final Cut Pro from the external hard drive. The computer being used is a Mac Pro laptop.

With limited resources, maximizing my time, and getting a quality product am I going to be doing this the right way? Ideally I want to keep everything digital and would like to use Firewire connections.

Another alternative that has been discussed is hook individual hard drives to each camera. Once recording is complete I would import the data from both drives into Final Cut Pro and sync up the clips and proceed with editing the two into one.

Also what type of video mixer is recommended? I am looking for a quality unit at a fair price. I know the prices range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. I am thinking a 4 channel would be fine, but would also consider an 8 channel if the budget allows.

Thanks,
