It also can be used as a standalone app. It is very powerful and the music is pretty good. I own it and Sonic Fire Pro and love and use them both.

Yes, it is a great mic for the price. Remember the secret to great audio is not the price of your mics: it is where you place them. Or where you can place them.

God you people know nothing. Take out the tape. The auto shut off cut entirely. Of course if you are recording you need OL. It could be worse if you had a GL2.

Hey guys! I have a Sony HDR-FX7 camera and it doesn't have any XLR inputs in it, it only has a mini plug. I've been looking at the Rode Videomic, and I'm receiving good feedback from it. How about you guys? Do you think that it's a good mic for my camera? And it's only $150 compared to other microphones out there.

I know from many of the posts in these forums there are usually people looking for cost effective music for their video projects. I got an email from Sony and apparetly they are going to replace Cinescore and they are selling it and the themepacks for 60% off. I just picked up a theme pack to suplement what I already have.

Just thought I would let everyone know. Here is the link if you are interested. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/cinescore?keycode=64147

This edit deck has very low hours on it being used for only a few personal projects each year and the very occasional one for a client. Note that this is one of only a few DV decks that takes both miniDV and full-size DV tapes. With a full-size tape you can have over 3 Hours of recording time at SP speed!

It is in perfect condition, essentially as new. All the original accessories are included: owner's manual, cables, etc., except for the remote batteries and the cleaning cassette. I'll include a 186min. full-size size tape (used) instead.

This is by far the best tape deck I've ever used and that includes many professional models. The rewind and fast forward speeds are almost not to be believed. The built-in edit functions do not compare to using a computer-based editor, but they work perfectly and easily.

It will ship in the original Sony box and packing.
Please contact me with any questions. I'll answer as best I can.

The first place to look are the Project/properties settings in Vegas, also if you have 3rd party codecs installed this can sometimes cause problems in some editors . Or upgrade your Vegas to the latest version 9.0 and see if work or not.

My newer HDR-SR11 also has a mini mic input.

If I need higher end mics, I could always go to BeachTek and get their XLR to mini box.

Has anyone noticed that sony is skimping on audio ports on their lower end cameras. For example Cannon has A $250 DVD recording camera that has a 3.5mm audio port. This has prevented me from buying sonys I'm sory to say.

I have a Sony FX-1 and a Beachtek DXA-4 XLR adapter and a Rode mic. I like the beachtek adapter and it gives me more options for recording audio.

I'm pleased with the Rode mic as well. This mic can pick up some sounds you are not expecting to hear!

As far as on camera lighting, I have the Bescor MX-601 6 VDC Light. It is 20 or 40 Watt, diffusion, barn doors and shoe mount...I'm okay with it but I really want something better and brighter and maybe even in LED to save/extend battery life.
The good thing about the Bescor is you can go to Academy and get the same 6vdc battery for 10 buck. You just need to solider a RCA jack to the terminals; saves about 40-50 bucks.

I have this camera and I both love it and hate it. On the good side, if you are shooting in good lighting conditions, then your footage should be good. The HD video is vey nice. However, the low light capabilities are poor, and are exacerbated by the fact that the gain control is totally automatic - no manual. So, whenever you open the iris up you can end up with lots of noise on your footage. The included microphone is good, and audio does sound nice.

Skill of shooter will always trump limitations of the camera - I'm still learning how to really use mine. If you go to Vimeo and other places, you can find some fantastic video shot with this camera. Another option might be a Panasonic AG-HMC 40. It's about $2200, but has 3 1/4 CMOS, and shoots on SD cards. It's brand new though, so I haven't seen any footage from it yet though.

Good Luck!

I have a HVR HD1000N. This is my first prosumer camera. For a newb like me I find it easy to shoot. I shoot videos of Sprint car racing. So far I learned the importance of using manual focus so it does not drive off ads I pan thru light pols and the safety fence. I still am not satisfied with the video quality once the sun sets. Not sure if I need to play with the shutter speed or other settings.

I bought this camcorder, and it's great. It's the same as our secondary shot camcorder internally (HDR-HC7), but with the professional look. It's easier to use than the HD7, because the weight of it is actually a plus. It's not as jerky. It has two hooks to attach a shoulder strap to, and that really helps for stability. Footage taken is at http://www.slitherproductions.com. If you go to the webmag, Michelle Wright's interview, the video footage in there is with this camcorder.

I've spent a lot of time getting well acquainted with my HVR-Z7U, to the point where I even bought a training DVD (the one with Doug Jensen) to make sure I knew everything about it. However, when Jensen gets to the Picture Profile settings - involving color and gamma and so on - he says "I'd go over all these settings but that would take another entire DVD!" Well, not surprisingly, I really want to know what those other settings do. Yeah, I can see some changes when I play with the settings, but to be honest, I don't really know what I'm doing with the camera when I change the settings. Is there a video, online posting or another training DVD that goes over Sony's Picture Profile settings for the camera? Thanks!

P.S. If someone is gonna take a crack at going over the settings themselves, I'm mostly interested in gamma - it kinda seems like contrast as far as I know, but again, I can't find stuff to confirm that.

Beachtek all the way for the xlr...they even have units made specifically to work with the FX1. As for the Mic, well you get what you pay for but I like audio technica and shure. If you can afford a litepanels micro led, it is definitely the way to go, but B&H has all the lights you could ever imagine, and they range in price from almost nothing to as expensive as your camera. Just look at the features and decide what you need. Finally the battery pack: You may want to take a look at the Anton Bauer ElipZ system. It's a full camera system that has compatible accessories such as a light and such. you can find it on B&H.

It's also possible that the editing software preview is shrinking or "compressing" your video so that the preview doesn't slow down while editing. Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 has three preview options: High-res, Normal Preview, and Low-res. What you see in the preview area may not affect the video itself - just the fact that you cannot preview in full quality.

Try exporting the video with Sony Vegas and use a media player (or Movie Maker/iMovie) to see what you're getting.
