I am fairly new in video editing and I want to make a DVD with best image/resolution/audio quality from 48 small *.avi clips ranging from 53 to 55 MB in size and about 5 to 5.5 minutes long play time. They all have about 29.70 seconds of startup routine that I want to cut off from all except one clip that would be the first clip. Currently the combined size of all the clips is about 2.5 GB but, I think, after removing first 29.70 seconds of video from 47 of them would probably make the total data size of 2.3 GBâ?¦so how can I edit and burn these clips in more time-efficient way on a 4.7 GB DVD-R which I can play on a regular DVD player to watch on a TV? Can somebody help me with this small project? Thanks in Advance!

Hello,

I am a new member in this forum. I am very serious about video production. I will be having my first camera this coming Christmas.. I will be purchasing an hd minidv hv40.

The problem I have is that I do not know if my cmputer will be able to handle it. I currently have the AMD phenom x4 9150e quadcore. It is the hp pavilion phoenix special edition se a6655f.It comes with a nvidia geforce 6150 se graphics (read it is not good) but also read it doesnt matter in video editing??I have a gpu of 300watts, sata interface 3gb/s and 5gb of RAM.

According to

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01357135

I found out that the maximun you can upgrade is to a Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600, and for video cardand according to

http://www.5starsupport.com/ipboard/index.php?showtopic=18002

to anxfx geforce 9600 gso.

I am super overwhelmed to the point that i can not sleep. I do not want to buy a camera that in the end won't be able to be editted , add effects and 3d animations maybe. I am planning to use Adobe Master collection, Maya and Realflow.I can not afford a Mac right now... maybe in the future.. I do not think i will be doing long films, I will start doing short videos and events such as live events, interviews, but eventually i will move to longer videos.

As for the budget, I really care about optimal performance instead of minimal...I really would like to know if it would be more expensive to upgrade my computer's current's motherboard or should i just get a new one. Which one would be cheaper in the long run.. with this I mean pay more now but have more possibilities to upgrade in the future or upgrade now.. and reach the limit to what my motherboard can do. I know hd can be a pain to work with... but I have read in forums that that is where the future of video is heading torwards.

I would love to know what is the perspective of video editing experts or people who have enough experience in the matter. I also would appreciate in mic recommendations.. and external hard drives.. so far for mics i want to get a good shotgun mic that i plan to set up in a mic stand. I really care about audio quality recording, I will be getting the juice link that accepts xlr mic connectors. As for hard drives, the research has made me nauseous.. so many good and bad reviews for every brand.. I know an external hard drive will be essential for video storage and real time editing. I have been recommended the WD and Lacie doesnt convince me because of so many bad reviews. I am scared to lose an entire product... some people say it is based on luck... that does not help at all..

I hope I did not sound too confusing. English is my second language, so I apologize for anything that sounds weird and the run on sentences...

Sincerely,

Kathy

Thanks for your valuable time.

I'm working on a project which calls for some automated video editing -- I need my video server to search through a few large video files, copy segments from each of the files and merge them together in a new video file. Need it all to be done automatically, based on selecting footage starting at frame x and ending at frame y.

Have been toying with avisynth but I cannot figure out how to save the new video file in an automated way (I have been opening the avs script with VirtualDub and saving the new, edited file from within VirtualDub, but I need to structure this to run completely within a script or a program).

I'm over my head! Anyone know how to do this? Is avisynth even the right programming language to use for script-level video editing?

I graduated with a degree in "Media Studies" and a concentration in "Production Technology" about a year and a half ago. Â I learned to edit video and audio, and run a news program. Â Unfortunately, there was very little in the way of anything that has actually helped me make a living. Â I thought I was going to become a video editor, but it's hard to edit video when your training consists of one lesson of AVID and one lesson of Final Cut Pro. Â It was very basic. Â I'm making less than $6000 a year now because I don't have sufficient skills.

What should I do?

Ok guys, about a month or two ago I posted up my first 3 quicky tech videos for cretique.

Here is the first one I ever did:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llCvyymzBn4

After getting some feedback, watching some professional tech programs on TV, watching some behind the scenes footage of some movies and a LOT of shooting, reshooting, practicing, and reshooting I've finally gotten the next video done. Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGg3UTxfSuk

Keep in mind this is being done on an almost non-existant budget. I will be getting a camera mic soon because I know that will be a big help on the audio. Budget for the microphone will be between $45-$75 I will put up another topic on the microphone before I purchase. What do you guys think?

Would the 17" definitely be better than the 15'?

How would you customize your Macbook Pro? MUST i max out to 8GB? I have an external hard drive at home for storage. Would be nice to have storage for about, I dunno, an hour worth of HD footage in the laptop so I don't have to schlep an external.

Fastest Macbook video card would make sense, obviously.

Any advice?

My son and I want to learn something together. I purchased a iMAC 24" computer. I am also looking into either Express 4 or Final Cut Studio 2. We are using Panasonic SDR10 video cams with SD cards because capturing video was a pain on a PC system. We are both PC users and have never touched this Mac yet. But, we know PC's really do not handle video well.

What is the best way to learn video editing? Would the jump to Final Cut Studio 2 be rough for OK for beginners? Are we missing a lot if we use Flash video over HD if we are just beginning? If not flash video, what camera format is best No compression? or 720p or 1080i etc?

I am using a GYHD200U, shooting HDV-HD60p and DV60i depending on the shoot. The HDV footage is recording with an extra 12 frames of "Video Only" at the end of each recording stop! During playback and capture, this results in a sort of 'dropout' between clips in the final product. Is there any setting in the camera that would prevent this or is it normal during HDV recording. The DV footage appears to be fine. As long as I am on the topic, I am editing with FCE 4.0.1 and using trial and error to determine which codec to use in the capture process. The AIC 720 30p seems to be the most effective, is there a better one?  This HD / HDV stuff is a bit overwhelming, anyone suggest a site to put it in black and white!!

 Hello everyone,

I am a new film student (as of now I have only taken theory classes, and yet to take a production class). I am thinking of buying an external hard drive. It has been a really long time since I have touched anything in relation to film or video editing so I am pretty ignorant to alot of the technology as well as the jargon.

I really want to get more into video editing. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds, I have to buy my system in stages, little by little, and cannot afford to have 1 system dedicated solely to editing (for now). So for the time being my laptop will be used for everday stuff as well as learning editing and fufute student video projects. Here are my computer details:

Laptop - Apple MacbookPro 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4G DDR2 SDRAM, and 250G Hard drive, running OSXÂ 10.5.

For now I only have iMovie, but eventually plan on buying Final Cut Pro. So for now I am looking for recommendations on an external hard drive. I know I want at least 1 terabyte of storage. I am also wondering If it is recommended to get 2 separate external hard drives - one for my media, and 1 for everyday stuff. In all I'd like to keep my costs down under $600.

As I am new to all of this any comments on what I need or should be thinking about would be welcome, and all advice would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance,

I bought a HP m9000t with Q6700 4 gigs of ram and gt8600 card. it froze up during rendering. HP could not help at all. I sent it back. Then I bought a Dell XPS 420 Q6600 with 4 gigs of ram and a 880GTX card. Same thing in 4 differant programs, froze up during video rendering. I spent 9hrs on the phone with dell in 2 weeks, they can't figure it out either.. Now I thinking of getting a Mac pro. Ive been to the store 4 times. There all kinds of problems on that one too. Don't know what else to do. Also on both computers I was  using OS Vista and Windows Movie Maker did work with no problem at all.

I have been trying to use other programs for editing such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere 6 & 5, Roxio 9 & 10 and Muvee 6 all froze up.

O.K. I know everyone has an opinion.....but what I need is reliable information on what production houses and TV station are using for digital (HD) software editing. I've used various incarnations of Pinnacle....Ulead....and the latest: Sony Vegas+DVD that has so many corrupt files incorporated on my computer that after the third project it still can't get beyond the rendering stage to the burn stage. I don't want to waste any more money on products that are not moving in the direction that the major production houses are gravitating toward.Â

I also need to know if the future is PC or Apple. I have no preconceived ideas......and I want to get beyond the Apple/PC controversy.....I NEED SOMETHING THAT WORKS AND WORKS WELL!!!

So anything you can give as constructive advice is appreciated!
