I am trying to combine VHS and HI-8 format tapes into a single production to burn onto a DVD. Could anyone tell me how you have done this successfully?

Get an analog to digital converter, hook it to your computer, connect your source media to it (VHS player, then hi8), and play into the converter.

You have editing software, right?

My full time job is in Law Enforcement.
We use VHS recording devices in our police units, and I needed to copy that footage for court.

So, what I did was play the police car video on the TV and recorded the VHS footage on to my Hi8 camcorder. Then plugged the Hi8 camcorder into my computer and imported the footage.

What your doing is used a camcorder as a bridge between analog and digital.

Editied the footage to reg and slo-motion and produced it onto a DVD.

It worked great!
