Capturing audio from film to video tansfer

   m trying to capture video and audio, particullarly audio fom a VHS tape which I  had Super 8 sound footage transferred some years ago. The video is no problem actually, but the audio has nothing but pure annoying static. I have no problem capturing video and audio  from camcorder tapes, but the problem comes into play when I try to capture the film to video transfers. What`s the problem here, is it a faulty transfer, or is it the nature of the beast?
