They work great for the price. Dont forget to turn it on when you start :) and turn it off when you finish. :)

I have used an ATR-55 on a the Panasonic PV-GS400. It worked just fine.
It is a very good microphone for the price. You may want to invest in a shock mount for it, though. This is a very sensitive microphone. I've always been very careful about movements when using it and I've never had any problems, but I could see that it would tend to pick up unwanted vibrations if you are not careful.
