CES 2018 Awards: Acer Swift 7 is the New “World’s Thinnest Laptop,” but it’s the Predator Orion 9000 That’s Getting an Award

How much thinner can we really make our laptop? Well, Acer is showing us that the world hasn’t reached its laptop thin-limit yet, claiming to have made the “world’s thinnest laptop,” the Acer Swift, even thinner, slimming down the new Swift 7 model to just 8.98 mm.

“We’re extremely proud to make the world’s thinnest laptop even thinner with the new Swift 7,” said Jerry Kao, President of IT Products Business of Acer Inc. “Building on the engineering breakthroughs from the previous generation, the new Swift 7 steps up the fame with an even slimmer chassis, powerful performance and always-on 4G LTE connectivity for professionals on the go.”

Though it has a slim design, Acer promises that the new Swift 7 isn’t without its power. It reported to be packing an Intel Core i7 processor, and runs on Windows 10 with a built-in Intel XMM 4G LTE connection that Acer says “keeps users always-connected,” which could be a key feature to professionals who have wireless connection problems when traveling.

And for storage, the new Swift 7 is set to offer 256GB of PCIe SSD storage and has 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM.

The Swift 7’s high-res display has been upgraded to 14 inches and now sports a Full HD IPS display, Acer Color Intelligence and a Corning Gorilla Glass NBT touchscreen and touchpad.

It’s the perfect PC for those who have things to do and create anywhere, at any time.”

Acer Predator Orion 9000

But the Swift 7 isn’t all that’s coming from Acer this week at CES 2018. More exciting for us, Acer has also announced the Predator Orion 9000 gaming rig, which is reported to offer up to an Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor with 18 cores and 36 threads and up to dual NVIDA GeForce GTX 1080Ti graphics cards. It also features customizable RGB lighting along the bezel and a push-open top that Acer says will make switching fans easy. Acer promises that “ …these desktops can power the hottest games and virtual reality.” More than gaming however, this hardware promises strong performance for video editors as well — so much so that we have named the Acer Predator Orion 9000 the Best Desktop Workstation of CES 2018.

Congratulations Acer!
